"Airlia... come on. You have to get up..."
My eyes fluttered open at the sound of the whispering voice. The voice was low and slightly husky. I clung onto the sound of the voice, hoping that is belonged to only one person.
I shot up in bed when memories from yesterday started to fill my head. "Paul," I breathed.
The room around me was pitch black, and I couldn't make out whether I was alone or not. My senses were still adjusting because even though I was awake, I felt like I was still coming out of haze.
At that moment, I reached up to feel the back of my head. Sure enough, I felt my dried, sticky blood clinging to my hair.
I sighed as I pulled myself out of bed and crawled over to the oil lamp to flick it on. The light slowly filled the room, illuminating everything in its path. Still, I didn't see anyone in the room with me.
I could have sworn...
One look at the dawning light coming from the window, and I began to hurry about the room like a mad person. I had at least an hour before I had to report to role call; therfore, I planned to make the most of it.
I had to find Paul. I kept thinking this in my head. Other thoughts invaded my head. Was he even alive? Where was he? What happened yesterday? What happened to the watcher? Who brought me back to my room?
I shivered in disgust when my thoughts turned to Adam. Rage took over me next when I remembered his blade protruding from Paul's chest.
I glanced around the room for my new maid uniform, but I came up empty. It seemed that I would just have to manage with my ripped maid uniform. In all honesty, the uniform looked badly disheveled. There were holes in the hose, revealing the pale skin of my legs underneath. Grass and dirt stains also stained my white apron.
I reached under my bed and pulled out the small medical kit, stuffing it into the pocket of my apron. With that, I rushed out of my room.
The halls were silent. Every now and then I could hear the brief creaking of the floorboards. Besides that, though, there was nothing. Because of this, I crept down the hall at a fast pace until I made it all the way to the shower rooms.
I smiled in relief when I found that no one was in the shower stalls. I locked the small knob on the main door and skipped over to the first shower I came to. Disrobing quickly, I turned on the water before stepping under the stream.
The smell of blood engulfed my nostrils as I washed my hair. The soap burned more than anything, but I bit down on my lips to muffle my cries of pain. I watched as clumps of dried blood washed down the drain. Finally, I bathed and exited the shower.
I wrapped one of the towels around my body. The air felt a lot cooler than when I had first entered the room. I grabbed the medical kit and sat down on the edge of a stool.
I began to take out some of the tubed medicine. Lifting up my hair, I began to apply the cream to the spot on the back of my head. I knew that the spot was already starting to heal because the skin was beginning to piece back together.
I tossed the objects back into the kit and started to put on my dirty maid uniform.
The first place I went to was the fields. I was careful to sneak to the same spot where I had last seen Paul. Yet, there was no sign of him. Not even a clue that could help me.
