(Dani.)
The phone was ringing.
6:33 am, on the weekend.
I scrambled to my feet, picking the phone up. The caller ID said "dad"
I hurried, sliding the screen to answer the call. I was already on my way outside, Lola was still sleeping.
I quietly closed the door to the hallway. This was the first I've heard from him since I left.
"H-hey, dad."my voice didn't even sound like mine. "Hey." He responded, his voice didn't sound the same either.
Suddenly I felt like a stranger to him, I'm not sure why either. Maybe it was because I was a different person since the three weeks I left.
"What's going on?" I asked him. I glanced across the hallway by the big window, it was a cloudy, and rainy day.
"Why does anything have to be going on?" He asked nonchalantly. "Um, I don't-" I began but remembered that I knew exactly.
"It's 6 in the morning." I stated kind of firmly. "Oh, yeah. I got a letter in the mail from school." He said awkwardly. I knew he was onto something, he couldn't just come out and say it.
"Yeah?" I asked casually leaning on the frame of the door. "You got detention." He said like I didn't know it already.
I swallowed hard "Yeah, like two weeks ago." I said. Pretty much I had forgotten about the small incident. "For sneaking around with boys after hours?" He asked raising his voice.
Why is this a 6 am phone call?
"No, dad that didn't happen." I reassured him. My dad can be sort of stubborn. "I don't care. You better not be getting in trouble over there anymore. I'm not sending you there for that." He said coldly.
I hated how he never listens to me. It's always like this, he won't listen to my side of the story because he's never wrong.
"Yes sir." I said defeated a bit. "Okay, good." He added on. I rolled my eyes thankful that this was a phone call and he didn't have to see.
"What's the real reason you called me?" I asked him. "I can't call you after sending you to boarding school?" He asked me the same question again.
"No not at 6." I kind of laughed. "You know your savings account?" He asked referring to the one i had after saving money a few years
"Yeah?" I asked him. "It's all gone. " he said and I had no idea what that meant. "What!?" I exclaimed.
"I matched the money and got you a car." He said and I could feel the smile. I guess bad news first with detention and then good news.
"Wow.." I trailed unsure of words. I had saved enough for one anyway. A used one at least. "Got Jack a truck too." He said and I nodded even though he couldn't see it.
"I'm heading up there today so you can drive back. I'll be here around 1." He told me. "Okay, thanks so much!" I exclaimed.
"Love you." He said.
"Love you too, bye." I said hanging up. I got to go home for the weekend. Get a car....I don't even know what kind.
This was all so sudden. Maybe he feels bad about sending me to boarding school without a good reason. Don't most parents?
I walked back into the room and sat up on my bed, I could barely go back to sleep at this point so I got on my phone for a while.
Lola woke up around 7:30. She checked her phone first, as usual. She usually texts Logan first. And during class. And all the time.
"Oh shoot, Logan and Gage already went to the cafeteria like 5 minutes ago." She said hurrying out of bed.
I stared at her "Come on!" She rushed me. "Why do I have to go at this time?" I groaned. "Cus I don't want Gage to feel awkward.." She trailed
I kind of laughed, It felt forced though. Like nervousness. Maybe I have a thing for Gage..but I don't know what it is yet.
I kicked the sheets off and pulled some random clothes out. Since my dad was getting me, I had to look more casual.
I picked light colored skinny jeans, a black tee shirt from Jack's football team, white converses and I didn't do anything for hair and make up.
I hardly wore make up around my dad.
We started toward the cafeteria to get there just on time so Lola could eat with Logan..there were already gonna be spending this day together anyway right?
"So what are you and Logan doing today?" I asked her as we took a turn down the hallway. She frowned "Nothing, unfortunately. He's hanging out with Gage so I gave him a free pass." She shrugged.
"Oh. Sorry?" I said more like a question. I didn't know how I was supposed to feel for her, at least she had a hot boyfriend. Not to be shallow, he has a great personality too.
"I wish you and Gage would go out, then he wouldn't be so lonely." She said Playing with a smirk on her lips. I pretended to hate the idea.
"No." I groaned pushing the door open. Maybe it was because I knew I had no chances with him at all so the thought only got my hopes up And pushed back down.
