(Dani)
That morning was my first class here at "Northridge Accedemy"
I was nervous for it, but it's not like I have to have friends. I have Lola. But then again what if I don't fit in here?
I know I won't, I mean these kids are insane prodigies. All I am is some kid who had good grades and a dad who sent her off to school.
I bit my lip and glared at my schedule that was clenched in my hands searching for room 3B.
It's kind of weird that the apartment numbers and classroom numbers seem switched. Oh well, this school is weird.
I trudged my feet, I should ask
For help. I'm just too shy to talk to anyone. I'm one of the youngest in the school anyway
I wasn't even watching my feet, just glancing down at the paper. I accidentally bumped into somebody.
"Mphhh." The person said. "I'm sorry." I muttered stepping back. The guy turned around and had sort of a glare, but his face softened.
He was cute, lots of guys at this school were.
"It's okay." He said, he was tall with shaggy blonde hair and blue eyes. He looked older.
I forced a smile and straightened my books. "What room are you looking for?" He asked me. "Oh, um 3B." I said nervously twirling my hair.
He smiled "upstairs and take a left. What's your name?" He asked me. "Dani." I said quietly "I'm Chase. See you around, kid." He waved walking into his classroom.
Maybe some people here were friendly. It can't be that bad.
I jogged up the stairs and took a left, finding the classroom.
"Mrs. King" was spelled out on the top of the doorway. Lots of younger kids were in here, my age.
"Hello, you must be Ms. Smith. Hi, I'm Mrs. King. Welcome to Chemistry. Take a set right back there please." She said sort of quickly.
I hurried to the desk and set my things on the floor, careful to keep them under my desk and not near anyone else.
Kids scrambled around to pull paper out and copy the notes that were on the board. How was this an introduction?
Mrs. King was tall and slim with short brown hair and glasses. She looked older and tired . I felt kind of bad that she has to feel like that.
Maybe that's what mom felt like. Maybe we weren't enough...maybe something isn't enough for Mrs. King, and maybe I need to stop thinking about it.
I have a wandering mind.
I tried to focus on the notes I was taking when someone sat beside me, I didn't have time to look at them from the notes, but Mrs. King did.
"Mr. Johnson." She said, I'm guessing she calls everyone by their last name. "Mrs. King." The familiar raspy kind of voice said.
My head snapped around. It was actually Gage, he slumped into the seat and I immediately straightened my self up
I'm always extremely self conscience around cute guys.
Mrs. King rolled her eyes at him, and clicked a butting turning the power point off that displayed the notes.
I'm guessing I'm the only one who didn't finish them. Okay.
"What I have planned for today is the 7.3 review. You can go to the tables and work in groups or by yourself. Turn it in at the end of class." Mrs. King said gesturing to the lab tables.
I didn't expect to work with anyone. I'm new and I'm guessing that they already all knew each other.
Chattering kids got up and started going to the tables. A couple of kids stayed at the desks, including Gage. Which surprised me. He seems like he'd be popular.
I started attempting to answer the questions in the book, I didn't really see how much trouble they were. A few were hard, not really though.
I had been at this for about twenty minutes. I was quite proud of myself, I thought I'd have a lot of trouble at this school.
"Hey, um...you're name is Dana, right?" Gage asked. That's typical for me, I'm quiet and shy and I don't usually have people remember who I am right off the bat.
"Dani.." I said, running a hand through my hair nervously.
Stop it, dani.
Be normal.
He put a smile on his face, "Well, Dani... Do you know how to balance a chemical equation?" He asked me. "Um..yeah..." I said moving my hand to his paper.
The only reason he talks to me is for help with work. My life is always like that.
"You have to make sure you have all sides equal, and use coefficients." I explained guiding my hand over the problem to show him.
He sort of smirked, "Yeah, I know. " he said. It was sort of weird...why'd he ask me if he knew?
"Then.. Why did you ask?" I asked feeling nervous. "I needed a conversation starter...This class is boring." He explained. I let out a laugh that was building up from nerves.
"Boring? Chemistry?" I said with mock surprise. "Nah, I already know it." He said running a hand through the brown hair that was styled like a quiff sort of.
"Then..why are you in it?" I asked. "Wow, you ask a lot of questions for a quiet girl." He said in amusement.
For some reason I felt defensive. What is the point of any of this?
"What's that mean?" I asked him, "Nah, don't worry. I'm quiet too." He reassured me. "Is that why you needed a conversation starter?" I smirked a little.
"Another question!?" He teased me. I started laughing along with him, "Let's get to work." Mrs. King said walking by our desks.
"Yes, ma'am. I'm finished." I said handing her the piece of paper. Her eyes skimmed it "Um. Okay. Gage, are you finished?" She asked sternly.
"Yes, ma'am I am." I said handing her his paper. His eyes flickered over to me and she made a slightly confused face.
"Okay, talk quietly then." She said walking away. But then the bell rang, stealing our conversation.
"See you around, Dani" he said when I picked my purse up. "Yeah, okay-" I began but he was already gone by then.
