(Dani)
I hoisted myself on the edge of the pool to sit along with everyone. We had our feet in the water and we're just sitting there talking.
Suddenly, I wasn't so self conscience anymore.
"You guys do this when the preppy-jock kids have parties?" Lola asked for confirmation pushing her wet hair out of her face.
"Pretty much." Gage answered shrugging "Yeah, I guess we're jocks but I don't like those kids." Logan rolled his eyes.
Here we go, a deep conversation.
Hopefully.
"Why?" I asked not even realizing it, I sounded curious and the voice didn't sound like it belonged to me. Almost like a child's.
"They're shallow, Ya know? Gage here quit football though." Logan joked trying to cover it up. I get it, guys don't talk about their feelings.
"Hey, I run." He defended letting a smile form on his face. I smiled back, it's contagious.
"So, not to sound too personal...but you guys are pretty cool. You don't already have a friend group?" I asked nervously trying to word ways in my mind it wouldn't sound weird.
"Nah, we like pretty girls." Logan joked. Heat went to my face, but it was dark and you couldn't see l. Lola and I both laughed even though I felt the compliment wasn't to me.
I always feel that way. It's no big deal.
"Just kidding. No, we have other friends it's just people kind of get on our nerves more often." Logan explained. It was like he spoke for both of them and Gage just agreed.
It got to me, I wanted to know more about him.
"Hey, what time is it?" I asked anyone. "Uh, 11:23" Gage answered locking his phone back. "We've been out here for a while." I commented, then froze.
I heard the door to the pool room open and close. Footsteps came and someone stood over us.
One of the Deans of the school stood over me.
"You guys aren't supposed to be out here." He said motioning for us to stand up. I gritted my teeth as Lola and I scrambled to get dressed.
This didn't look good.

Do you know how awkward it is to sit in your principal's office in a tee shirt and shorts and wet bathing suit with a group of friends you met two days ago and try to explain yourself?
I can't.
"Why were you at the pool?" The man asked staring us down. He looked scary, but this was the first time I had ever seen him.
My head snapped around to Lola wide eyed, Gage was a bit tense with his jaw clenched. And Logan, actually looked calm.
"I'm sorry, sir. We...I don't have a real excuse. Just wanted to go swimming at night. We weren't doing anything." Logan said cooly looking Principal Rogers right in the eye.
He pressed his lips together and his eyes flickered to Gage. "Sorry, sir." He muttered. Lola next "I'm sorry." She said nervously.
"Who are you?" He asked her. "Lola James." She answered quickly. He looked like he was thinking something over. "Oh, yeah. I remember your application."he said nodding.
Then me.
His eyes landed on me, and I didn't know what to say.
"Sorry." Was all I managed. "Who are you?" he said harshly. I don't blame him, this did look bad.
"Dani Smith." I said crossing my Arms, now I felt cold. The air vents were getting to me.
"Detention for you." He said directly to me. "What about us?" Logan asked defensively. "I can't have you guys missing practices. She's not an athlete...must have the free time." He smiled sickly.
"Sir, we were the ones who got her involved." Gage said. I wished they'd stop. It was too embarrassing.
"Guys it's okay." I said quietly.
"Go, but don't let this happen again." The principal said firmly. We jumped up and started walking.
"I can't believe you got detention." Logan groaned throwing his head back. "Yeah. It's unfair." Lola agreed entering the elevator to go to our different dorms.
"It's fine." I said leaning on the wall of the elevator. I squeezed my eyes shut and reopened them.
What if my dad finds out?
"Well...I'm sorry, Dani." Logan said exiting the elevator. "Gage followed behind "This was fun." He said, his eyes found mine.
The look looked a little like sympathy, it made me uncomfortable. How much does he know about me?
