(Dani)
The first thing I knew how to do was go to the office. Duh, that's all I knew. I was scared more than anything.
The woman at the front desk had dark hair to her ears, I couldn't tell the eye color but she had dark eyeliner on, and a flowy shirt.
She began speaking through the purple stained lips.
"Name." She said tiredly.
"Daniele Smith....um I'm new. I'm a sophomore and I have this.." I said giving her my paper work. "I just need my information." I told her.
She skimmed over the letter and smiled, "Oh, okay. Here you go Ms. smith, you'll be in room 205 which is in the East tower, your schedule, and any additional information. We have some upperclassmen available to help." She said handing me paper.
I smiled, and pulled my bags along looking for the east tower. I found it, and stepped in the elevator. I was on the top floor which was the 5th.
Room 205.
I unlocked it with the key she gave me.
Once I got inside it reminded me
Of an empty hotel room. It was nicer than I expected, these were like apartments.
On the inside of the door papers were posted, it had a list of the apartments on the second floor and who the roommates were.
My eyes scanned down to 205 which had my name and a name next to it.
Smith, Daniele; Jones Lola
Lola. Hm, I had never had a sister before and a roommate would be as close as I got.
When my mom left she remarried, the guy already had children and she treated them like her own. She ignored her own.
If I could hate, I'd hate her.
I sighed, setting the paper on the desk in the room. There was a mini fridge, bathroom, TV, two closets, two dressers, two desks, and two beds.
I awkwardly set my bags down next to the bed closest to the window. My roommate wasn't here yet, so I'd get the first pick.
Before I unpacked, I took a look out the window.
We were in Tennessee and you could see the lights of the city we were in. It was a pretty view.
I sighed and set my elbows on the window frame, I thought about My family as I looked out the window.
Right now, they probably picked up fast food on the way back. And from Burger King... Because we liked it a lot. And Jack probably got like three burgers, and Peyton his favorite milk shake. I felt tears in my eyes.
Because I'm not there. And I already miss them.
I wiped my face as soon as I heard the door open, I shot around and a girl stood there.
She was taller than me, and had dark hair and blue eyes. Kind of like my brother. She was pretty and gave a friendly smile.
"Hi, I'm Lola....you must be-" she paused looking at the paper. "Daniele?" She smiled. I nodded slowly.
"Yeah, but everybody calls me Dani." I told her gathering my papers from the desk. She sighed relief and closed the door dropping her things.
"So, Dani...we're best friends now?" She asked me, and I let out laugh. It felt like I was holding in emotion and was good to release it.
I nodded "Fine by me." I said opening my suitcase.
"So where are you from?" She asked beginning to unpack. I'm guessing she's the more outgoing one.
"Alabama, you?" I asked her. "Wow, you don't have a thick accent...and Michigan." She said folding a white tee shirt.
We started to make small talk about where we were from, what we were doing here.
I learned she is a runner, she's probably getting a scholarship for that and came here to focus. She has 4 siblings, and is a northerner.
I told her certain things, not my full story. Who has time anyway?
"You play guitar?" She asked me as I set up the one I brought in a corner. I nodded "Yeah, and piano but couldn't really bring it." I giggled.
She smiled "That's so cool.." She trailed and I shrugged. Nobody ever told me it was "cool" before.
We actually finished all the unpacking in about an hour.
"So, I heard there's actually like a little store here. This school has pretty much everything." She gushed.
"Well, maybe we should go get some bathroom stuff." I said remembering that I hadn't gotten anything.
She nodded, "Yeah. Also, we should probably go to dinner before the cafeteria closes." She told me. I grabbed my purse and threw it over my shoulder, taking once glance back on the way out.
This isn't a hotel room, this isn't a camp, normal school.
It's life now.
