ARTHUR
I didn't like this.
I didn't like not knowing my wife's whereabouts. I didn't like being away from her, especially being almost a thousand miles away from her.
It had been a day since she left to Budapest and I had missed her like I couldn't breathe. We finally made up after 3 days of having an argument and then she had to leave for another 3 days. I was closed to being insane, for being away from her. I was not used to her absence.
"Arthur, it's the 4th time you call me the past hour." She said before I could even greet her on the phone. "What is it now? I have a meeting in 5 minutes."
She had been busy being in a meeting after meeting today. She had told me her schedule for today, and she indeed had 4 meetings today as it was her final day before she would be back tomorrow noon.
"I just want to hear your voice."
I felt like smacking my own face for sounding so needy. I had never been so needy to anyone.
I heard her giggled. "You heard my voice a few minutes ago."
And I couldn't get enough of it.
"I've missed you so much."
"You'll see me tomorrow, I'm not going anywhere."
I let out a sigh, tomorrow felt like an eternity to me. I couldn't wait that long, not when I nearly burst without having her here with me.
"Why can't you come back today?"
"Arthur, I've told you before, I have a Gala dinner tonight and a closing ceremony tomorrow morning. I can't miss these events."
Before I could respond to her, I heard someone talked to her. "Mr. Ford is here."
"Arthur, I'm sorry I'm gonna have to hang up. The meeting is about to start."
"Wait, I-" the line went dead before I could continue. I sighed and shoved my phone back into my pocket.
I walked back to Josh's room to find him still in the same position like an hour ago.
Jessy had called earlier this morning to ask me if I could stay and watch Josh for a bit while she went to the hospital for a monthly check-up. I stayed with Josh, spending the time playing with his toys for hours, now he was fast asleep in his room. The house was quiet now that he was asleep.
I took this chance to do something to keep me preoccupied. I turned the TV on and found something entertaining to watch. It had been a while since I last watched TV, work had consumed most of my time that I rarely watched TV.
Skyfall was currently playing, so I watched.
2 hours later, I checked my phone to see if Thea had texted or called me back. She hadn't. I tried to call her phone but it was switched off. 10 minutes later, I tried again but it was still switched off.
"Why are you looking so anxious?"
I looked up to find Jessy walking into the kitchen bringing groceries.
"It's Thea, she hasn't called in 3 hours."
"Where is she anyway?"
"She's in a meeting."
I quickly texted her, asking if the meeting was done. My message was undelivered. I started to get even more anxious. The meeting should've been over by now.
"Do you wanna stay for dinner?" Jessy's voice brought my attention back. "I bought some Chinese takeaway" she offered.
I was not so hungry but I needed to talk to her about Josh, so I nodded then approached her in the kitchen. She served the foods as I took a seat on the chair.
