let it burn

i don't know how deep i'll sink,
or how long i'll yearn,
i'd rather be consumed by your warmth,
until i slowly get burned,
the heaviness of your words,
made my stomach all anxious,
i knew anything i did amounts to nothing,
so i won't stand proud and be pretentious,
i knew i could never equal,
whatever has happened in your past,
my fate intertwined with yours is bound to end,
clock is ticking; all of this won't last,
she gave you what i couldn't,
a gentle reminder of who you were before,
i'm nothing but a person from the present,
and the future isn't what you expected anymore,
i can't hold onto your hand,
your hands aren't meant for me,
i'm only here to tug at your sleeves,
to remind you you're free.
