Dabi took you back to your room after drying you off and wrapping you in a towel. There, you changed but was startled by Dabi throwing his sweatshirt at you, telling you to wear that with your leggings. You smiled and put it on as he changed into his clothes, the tattered white shirt, the torn and damaged black jacket and his usual boots and pants. He carried you down to the kitchen, where Todoroki sat tied up, a bored scowl on his face, and Toga and Twice watching Compress build a card castle.
Now, you sit next to Dabi, sipping on some water Compress fixed for you, as Dabi and Todoroki scowl at each other. You'll admit, it feels awkward to be down here. You know you've got hickeys all over, especially on your neck, and the sweatshirt isn't doing much to hide it. But you're sure Dabi enjoys it.
Nobody speaks, except for the hushed whispers and giggles between Toga and Twice. And no one even acknowledged his white hair. The only person who looked shocked was Todoroki. After that, he sat pondering things and desperately trying to grasp for answers. Everyone else must've known. You'll have to ask Dabi later.
Dabi throws his head back, his arm draped over your shoulders as he says, "Where is that crusty ass?"
"Shig is out looking for new bases for us since the heroes know this one. Remember?" Toga says, flashing you a quick smile.
Dabi pulls out a phone from his pocket before putting to his ear to call Shigaraki. A few seconds later, he answers. "Oi, get the fuck over here."
"Don't tell me what to do, bacon head," you hear from the other line. You refrain from giggling by pinching your arm as you listen to the conversation.
"You know, at least I know what Chapstick is, crusty musty."
"Crusty musty? How dare you."
"Get your dry ass desert face over here now. I don't have all fucking day."
Shigaraki grumbles something a few moments after he hangs up, a warp gate appears and Shigaraki and Kurogiri step through.
"Would it kill you two to be a little nicer?" Kurogiri asks, crossing his arms.
Dabi mocks a gasp. "Oh my god. Shig, am I hurting your feelings? Why didn't you say anything? Please, forgive me father," Dabi says, pressing his hands together, mocking a prayer. "I have sinned and I'm sorry."
Shigaraki takes the nearest object, which ends up being a salt shaker, and chucks it at Dabi, who now is laughing as he dodges it.
"Shut up," Shigaraki says, dropping into one of the bar stools. He leans his head on his arms, which are perched on the edge of the bar, while he frowns. "You take it too far sometimes."
"Lighten up, Shig. You know I love ya."
"Whatever. What the hell did you need me here for?"
"Now that most of the gang it here, why don't we tell them what we have planned?" he asks you, his breath hot against your cheek.
"You want me to tell them?" you whisper, your eyes glancing at the League and their curious faces.
He nods and tilts your face up by your chin. "You're the one who thought of it."
You nod and take a deep breath. The room seems to spin but you take a steadying breath, ignoring the stealthy steps of anxiety creeping up behind you. "I'm going to join the heroes," you whisper. "To keep you all safe. And to leak information to you guys."
The silence is deafening. No one speaks, no one moves, no one even dare to breathe. Even Todoroki. You grip Dabi's hand under the table, tapping your foot, waiting for the utter painful silence to disperse. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap.
"So," Shigaraki says slowly. "You're leaving us for them?"
"No. It's not like that," you start.
"She's joining them to ruin them." Dabi's head is lain back against the booth, his eyes shut, a playful smirk on his lips.
"How so?" Shiggy asks.
"By destroying the trust between everyone and spilling secrets to us. Like training camps, students fighting techniques. Need I say more?"
"You're going to send her to the monsters?" Shigaraki exclaims. "Are you serious?"
"She suggested it."
Shigaraki shakes his head and begins pacing. Your heart pounds in your chest, and the cold grips of fear begin to close around your throat. You didn't want to make them think you were leaving them. You're not. You're protecting them. At least, trying to.
"Shiggy," you say, quickly climbing out of the booth and attempting to run to him. Instead, you crumple into him arms as he helps you onto the stool, standing in front of him. You grip his forearms begging him to look at you, to listen. "I'm not leaving you. I need you to understand that. I'm going there, for a temporary time. To give you more time to hide. To give you the chance to end All might." You whisper the last part, watching his eyes widen with a hope, a final hope for something he's always wanted. "You can't get rid of me that easily," you tease shyly.
Shigaraki lights up a small smile and turns to Dabi. "When do we send her off?" he asks. He holds onto your upper arms, keeping you secure in his grasp. His eyes are trained on Dabi, a hint of both annoyance but respect. Quite the change in emotions. But. . . it warms your heart to know Shigaraki was worried for you, was being protective.
"In three days."
"Are we sure this a good idea? What if she decides to join them for good?" Compress asks, turning attention away from the cards in front of him.
"I won't," you say.
"Oh, Y/n! You're so brave!" Toga squeals, rushing over to wrap you in her arms. "And so adorable!" She pulls away and instead cups your face, squishing your cheeks as she smiles. "Isn't she just so perfect? I love you, Y/n!"
"No, I love her! Marry me, Y/n!" Twice yells. "No. You're in love with Toga, idiot."
You giggle softly to yourself, your legs kicking gently with excitement. You didn't realize you did it when you laughed or when you were excited. Dabi pointed it out to you one night. You were laying with him, and he was drawing shapes and words on your belly, making you guess. Little did he know, your stomach was a ticklish spot for you. So each time he dragged a finger in a shape, you would laugh, and out of instinct, you would kick your legs. Nothing crazy. Just like a reflex. A sort of swing of your legs out of excitement.
"You kick your legs a lot, don't you?" he asked, sitting up on his elbow, his turquoise eyes just in complete awe and admiration of your pure innocence.
"I do?" you replied as you lifted your head up to look at your feet.
He smiled and brushed his finger along your cheek. "You do."
"I'm sorry," you said softly.
He rolled his eyes, put his arms around your waist, and rolled the two of you over, making you laugh. "Shut up. I think it's cute. Don't stop."
It was one of the few moments Dabi's soft with you. You've learned that behind closed doors, Dabi is gentle, soft. He's still Dabi, that might not every change, but there's more tenderness behind those soft touches, more gentle caresses. And when you're with people, the League mostly, he's his usual hard stoned and carefree side. The jokes and insults between him and Shigaraki. But no matter what, Dabi stays close to you. And if you can't be next to him, his eyes are trained on you. Like they are now, carefully watching you.
"So," Todoroki says, breaking the short silence. "How long are you going to leave me here? My arms are tired."
Dabi rubs his jaw, stretching it before he stands, shoving his hands into his pockets, and stalks over to Todoroki. He stares down the length of his nose, most likely deciding what to do with him. Todoroki seems unphased, not a care in the world that one wrong move, and Dabi could burn him to death.
"Welcome to the League, fucker."
