Before Touya, your first reaction might've been you gasping, sobbing as you confessed because you felt guilty. Because. . . well because Midoriya is right. But you catch yourself before you can and instead, press a finger to your trembling lips and say, "What?"
He looks up at you, with his teary eyes as he begs and begs for your forgiveness. How he thought you were a villain because of Muscular saying they needed you. How you never had enough information for the hero's and that was suspicious. You shake your head, trying to act like you're processing this. Which you are, but you're trying to be less suspicious.
"Y/n," he gasps. "I'm so sorry. I'm sorry I didn't trust you!"
You pull away from Hawks, who had left one arm around your waist when you sat up to listen to Midoriya, and gently crawl to the edge of the bed, where you carefully slide down to your knees next to Midoriya. He keeps his forehead firmly pressed against the floor, his body shaking with his sobs. Hawks, All Might, and Aizawa all just silently stare. You almost wish they would jump in and defend you. Their silence is worrying.
"Midoriya," you plead. "Can you look at me?"
He slowly, hesitantly, lifts his head up to look you in the eyes. He's so terrified, and for a second, your heart aches. All these trusting people and you're going to rip them apart. Two days. Two days you'll betray them all. And for a second, you want to feel bad. Hawks trusts you. More than he should. And All Might. . . All Might trusts you completely and wants nothing but the best for you. Out of all the heroes, betraying him is going to hurt the most. But you shake those thoughts away and instead focus back on Midoriya as he looks up at you. You smile softly and give him a hug, which surprises him.
"It's okay," you say. "You were just doing what any pro hero would do. You were being cautious. I can't be mad at you for that."
He shakes his head. "But Y/n," he hiccups. "The heroes were so mean to you! How can you not be upset?"
"They were mean, yes. But not all. I can't label them all the same because a few of them didn't trust me. That wouldn't be fair."
You let him pull away so he can brush his tears away, still sniffing. "You're really not upset?"
You shake your head. "Not really. I understand why you might've assumed I'd be working for them."
God, you're trying to hide your shaking hands, the nervous pitch in your voice. You're trying to act calm but you're not. Midoriya knew. Of course, he knew. Meaning, everyone else had to have known or suspected. Right? Todoroki hadn't said anything about it. Why did he say anything about it? You'll have to ask him about that. You still have to tell him the new plans.
"I really am sorry. I shouldn't have assumed. It was my fault."
"Please, don't blame yourself," you say, forcing your tears back. You want to cry. To cry just because the thought of getting caught before you get to marry Touya terrifies you. To cry because you're so close. So fucking close to freedom again. "How were you to know?"
He nods, wiping at his tears as he stands and bows. "Let me know if you need anything, Y/n. I would love to help you."
"Thank you, Midoriya. I think I'm okay for now."
With that, he quickly exits the room, and although you'd like to sigh and complain about how that was so close, you can't. So instead, you reach for Hawks to help you back on the bed. He does so quickly, and you make yourself comfortable in his arms, regardless of how much you despise his touch on you.
"Did you think I worked for the League too?"
He tenses. "Kid," he starts.
"It's okay if you did. I just want to know."
Sighing, he rubs your upper arm gently. "We did. You have to understand that you just walked in here with Todoroki. The alibi felt off. We just, we just had to be sure."
"And you thought putting me in a revealing costume was the way to make sure I was loyal to you guys?" you ask softly. You look over at Aizawa with tears in your eyes. His body tenses but he doesn't look away from your gaze. "You saw me at the training camp. I was terrified. How could you think I was working for the League?" You pull away from Hawks, leaving him as you go to sit near the edge of the bed with your arms crossed.
"Kid." Hawks makes a move to come crawl over to you, but you shoot him a look.
"So, did you all think I was faking it?"
All Might frowns with his head lowered. That's all you need to know he didn't trust you either. And that. . . that somehow hurts. You frown and put a hand around your waist as if you're trying to hold yourself together.
"Really?" you ask softly. "I thought. . . I thought you trusted me. You were so nice to me."
He shakes his head with desperation, his eyes wide as he pleads with you. "That was at the beginning! I trust you now, Y/n! We were only being cautious for our student's sake. We didn't know if you were just a ploy."
It hurts. Why does it hurt? You don't care for them. You care for the League. For Touya. Not the heroes. So why are you feeling guilty?
"We never meant to hurt you, Y/n." Aizawa takes a step forward, and for a moment, you see the softness in his eyes. It makes your stomach churn, so you drop your head to avoid looking at their faces, to avoid giving the truth away. "We didn't trust Todoroki either."
"You didn't?" you hiccup.
"How could we? He just brought you in and said he saved you and whatnot," Hawks scoffs.
All Might rubs his chin in thought when he says, "Not to mention he rarely expresses emotions. We couldn't figure out what he was thinking."
You wipe at the tears you hadn't realized you shed. You watch as All Might stands, sets the glass of water down, and makes his way over to you. The bed sinks in with his weight, but his body keeps you from falling over. Just as his arms wrap around you, Hawks grabs your hand, stroking it through his gloved hand.
Great. Now you can't hold the sobs back. There was a time when working with the League would've been the biggest mistake in your life. There was a time when hating the heroes was a little too much. There was a time when you hadn't known what the word love even meant, let alone felt like. There was a time you weren't sure you'd ever feel anything besides pain. But here you are. You're in hopelessly, utterly in love with a villain. And it's not that you want to stop loving Touya, you absolutely don't want to, it's just. . . it's just that these heroes in this room trust you. They're comforting you, apologizing immensely for hurting you. And you're going to have to look them in the eyes while you leave with Touya.
You end up falling asleep like that, being rocked gently by All Might, Aizawa telling you stories of the students training while holding your other hand that you reached out to him, and Hawks holding your free hand. They didn't dare leave you alone that night. To that, you were grateful, yet at the same time, you were angry. You want them to hurt you. Blame you. Yell at you. Anything. Anything to make this whole betraying thing easier on you. You want them to hurt you so bad, that you won't feel a single ounce of guilt in you.
Because right now, you're in a pit of despair.
Maybe you were never strong enough.
Maybe the world never wanted you to rise and be the bigger person.
Maybe you'll end up crumpling like you used to.
Maybe all the progress Touya taught you will go to waste.
Maybe. . . maybe this is just the beginning of your downfall.
