You watch as Touya's blue flames overtake the city. The chaos and the screaming echoing in the distance. You sit on the ledge, patiently waiting, your legs kicking softly with the wind. All the while, the League destroys the city, tearing it apart, piece by piece. Your job: enhance their quirks. You've focused on the ones that needed it more but you've made sure to help everyone.
"Y/n?"
A smile breaks out on your face, but you stay facing forward, your eyes following the occasional blue flames that light up.
"Hi, Hawks," you say softly.
He doesn't respond, and for a moment, you wonder if he's walked away. But of course, he wouldn't, he'd stay. He said he would.
"Why?" is all he says, his voice breaking on the word.
You shrug, slowly standing on the ledge, your back still facing him. You imagine the way he clenches his fists, trying to remain calm as he stares at you, feeling betrayed. You don't feel too bad. He made you uncomfortable. You were with Touya, not him.
"Why, Y/n?" he asks again, this time his voice harsher.
"Why do you heroes put yourselves above others?"
He scoffs, most likely shaking his head. "What?"
"Do you think you're better than us?"
"Excuse me?" He's growing agitated, upset and annoyed. And it's so damn satisfying. Because all the while, you hear the pain in his voice. You let him hold you, you let him believe you liked him. And now you stand, a ring on your finger, your heart in the warm and scarred hands of a man who's everything to you, his heart being gently held in yours. "Y/n! Say something!" Hawks begs.
You turn around, your eyes falling on his wide ones, his hurt and confused golden eyes. You cock your head innocently, your hands behind your back as you frown at him, as you press a button behind your back before subtly putting it back into your belt pocket.
"Hawks," you say softly, blinking, shaking your head. "What. . . what happened?"
It's his turn to frown, taking a soft step back, shaking his head in disbelief. It's bold of you to try this, but you were told to. So you'll try regardless.
"I don't," you say, stumbling off the ledge towards him. "I don't understand."
For a pro hero who does quick thinking, he can be incredibly gullible. He rushes to you, believing your act so quickly, you could've tried less. He cups your face, his eyes scanning your wide and frightful ones as sirens ring out in the distance, helicopters flying above.
"What happened?" he asks. "What do you remember? Does your head hurt?"
"I can't. . .," you shake your head as you speak, convincing him even more. "I can't remember. Oh my god, I can't remember." Burying your face into your hands, you force yourself to shake softly, as if you were sobbing into your hands.
"Hey, hey," Hawks soothes, pulling you into your arms. "It's going to be okay." If only he knew what the League has planned for him.
"Not for you." That voice makes your heart leap from your chest, and you nearly squeal with excitement.
"Dabi," he growls, his grip on you tightening.
Touya stuffs his hands in his pockets, slowing striding forward with a confident and malicious gait. You smile beneath your hands, forcing your giggle back as you watch the love of your life stride to you.
"Keigo," he muses, a soft smirk on his face. "What are your arms doing around my fiancée? Huh?'
"Fiancée? What?" Hawks shakes his head, anger taking over. You see Touya's eyes flick to you, to the way he holds you near his chest, and the anger that clouds his vision makes your smile wider. "She's not your fiancée."
"No? That's weird. I didn't know you spoke for her. Come here, baby," Touya says simply. It reminds you of Stain, having to pick between the two. Except this time, the decision is easy. You break away from Hawks, hitting him with a sharp pain in his arm to get away from his grasp and go to Touya's arms. "That's my girl."
You beam, hiding your big smile in his chest, his arms around you as a he kisses the top of your head.
"You ready?" he asks.
"Mhm," you hum with your face tilted up towards his. He taps your nose with his index finger before his attention returns to Hawks, who stands dumbfounded, stunned, and hurt, oh so hurt. You nearly coo at him and tease him for the tears beginning to form in his eyes.
"Y/n," he starts, shaking his head softly, his shoulders slumping. "I. . . I love you."
The giddy smile on your face drops as the words settle inside you. Touya goes to step forward, his hands already balled into fists, his blue flames engulfing them, but you place your hand on his chest, keeping him in place, your eyes never leaving Hawks.
"You love me?" Your voice is quiet, but he hears.
Hawks simply nods, defeated. He looks like he wants to speak, wants to say something, to scream and fight, but he just stands there, like a lost puppy.
Slowly, carefully, you step forward, your eyes wide, your breath uneven. "Hawks," you start.
"I know, kid. I know," he starts, shaking his head, his hands in his hair. "I'm crazy for loving someone like you." He laughs as he begins to pace. Back and forth. Back and forth. "But I do! God, I do and I just—You can't be happy with him, kid!" he says desperately, motioning at Touya. "He's a villain! He's manipulated you, Y/n! You only think you love him, you don't really love him, do you? He'll leave you! He'll sacrifice you!"
"Sacrifice?" you shout back, shushing him. "You want to talk about sacrifice?" you say more calmly, running your hands down your stomach to calm you. "Would you sacrifice me to save the world?"
He pauses, lost, confused. "I'd sacrifice myself—"
"That wasn't the question."
"But—"
"Me," you say sternly, a cold look piercing Hawks. "Or the world?"
Shaking his head, he drags his hands down his face. "Don't make me pick, kid." Before you can even open your mouth, he begins pacing again, this time in circles. Eventually, he stops, his back facing you. Touya reaches from behind you, taking your hand in his. You merely squeeze his hand back, letting him know you love him and not Hawks.
"The world!" he finally yells. "I'm going to pick the world, you know this," he says, his voice breaking. You watch his eyes take one final look at you before dropping to the ground, his shoulders once again slumping.
"You see," you say softly, the wind playing with your hair. "That is why I don't love you. Because unlike you, Touya would sacrifice the world to save me. And I for him."
"Kid," he pleads. "Don't do this."
"Do what?" you ask innocently, cocking your head to the side.
"The villains don't love you," he cries. "They're using you! You have to understand!" He goes to rush to you, but Touya's cold look stops him short.
You tsk, shaking your head. "It's silly. Last I checked, the villains spoke for themselves, did they not?"
"Y/n," he starts.
"How often should heroes let their guard down?" you ask, your smirk not being able to stay hidden.
Compress salutes to you from behind Hawks, his cane steady on the ground.
You watch Hawks's eyes widen, you watch him whir around to face Compress, you watch him try to stop him, you watch him take one last look at you before he's marbleized, placed in the pocket of Compress's suit coat. He waves at you two and gleefully comes your way.
"You've got the others?"
"All in here," he cheers, pointing to his pocket.
Touya smiles. "Oh, this is going to be fun. Long live the heroes."
