The Sodder Case

Y/N's POV

Jimmy and I look at him confuse until the ground opens up and we both fall into the darkness.

I scream closing my eyes feeling the void and emptiness in my stomach, I hug the file closer to me out of fear and I also hear Jimmy screaming but I'm too afraid to open my eyes.

I start hearing some music from afar as I harshly land on my back, I open my eyes the sunlight shining brightly, the dark hole is nowhere to be seen, "Are you okay?" I hear Jimmy ask, I turn to look at him and nod, "He could have warned us earlier about the fall" I say sitting up as I rub the back of my head,

"He should have. Do you hear the music?" Jimmy asks as he stands up, I grab the file and my purse as I stand up focusing on the sound, "I do, jazz has always been one of my favorite music genres" I say looking around, there aren't many people on the streets but around the corner, there is a restaurant which seems to be quite full, the music coming out of it,

"I can't believe we are actually in the '40s," I say and Jimmy nods, "It's nuts I know!" he says excitement on his voice, "We have everything we need on the file, we should start the investigation, all I need to find out is the day" I explain to Jimmy as I read over the file and start walking towards the restaurant.

As I come in I see many people in the place, some are sat eating and chatting while others are dancing with their partners celebrating the end of the war, I have always wondered how it was for people after the war, and it's quite reassuring to see how many were celebrating,

I go over to the bar and take a seat Jimmy standing behind me, "Excuse me, what day is it today?" I ask the bartender, he gives me a weird look but answers, "Sunday 23rd" he says, I nod and thank him, "Are you going to have anything?" he asks me, "Umm, a lemonade is fine, thank you" I say,

"You don't drink?" Jimmy asked me taking a seat next to me, "I do, just not during work, it's unprofessional" I tell him and he nods, "That makes sense", "What about you?" I ask him, "Not much, I have never been a big fan of alcohol" he explains and I nod,

The bartender brings me the lemonade and I thank him, he asks Jimmy if he wants a drink but he denies. I start looking around the place, seeing if perhaps there's someone here who might be able to provide us more information about any of the people talked about in the document, those being Mr. and Mrs. Sodder, their neighbors, and a suspicious landlord mentioned in the file.

"Spot something?" Jimmy asks me, I shake my head as I finish drinking my lemonade and stand up, "Nothing, we should go talk with Mr. and Mrs. Sodder and see if they have been told anything suspicious or worrying in the past couple of days" I say turning to look at Jimmy, "That's a good idea, we need to find the address" he says and I go to look through the file, "Jacobs Avenue house 36" I explain to Jimmy,

"We need a map," he says and I smile at him as I pull one out of the file, "There you go" he chuckles and opens the map as he starts looking for Jacobs Avenue, I look over Jimmy's shoulder trying to find the house as well, "There," Jimmy says as he points at the house which is near the right border of Fayetteville,

"Great, we just need to get there," I say and Jimmy stands up, we both start walking as we discuss how we are going to get there, "Excuse me, are you two Y/N and Jimmy?" I hear someone say, I look at Jimmy concerned and turn to look around to see a girl standing in front of us,

"We are, how can we help you?" I say trying to figure out how she knows us, "I was sent here by the Beyonders to keep an eye on you two during the investigation" she explains to us and I nod, she seems pretty young and from around the time, "The Beyonders left a car for you here feel free to use it," she says as she hands me the keys, "I will be around if you need me" she nods looking at both of us and then walks away,
