TW: This chapter contains blood, wound descriptions and death.
"No turning back huh?"
*
Chishiya and you have been wandering around for an hour now looking for that stupid button. Not much is said. Every now and then you ask each other which way you want to go, but that's all. And if you are honest, you have no idea where you are going.
Each path is exactly the same: darkness, silence, leaves, branches and mud. All you can hear are your footsteps and sometimes a sigh. You run your hands along the branches and leaves of the hedge. They feel cold and occasionally prickly because of a few protruding branches.
You get lost in your thoughts until you hear a scream. A girl's scream, loud and full of fear. You look around, looking for where the scream could come from, but there is nothing to see.
"Hello?!" you call, hoping for an answer. But nothing. The dead silence has returned. You look at Chishiya who also has an alert look in his eyes.
You sigh and say, "Well that was creepy. Probably to distract us or something?" Chishiya nods in agreement and you both walk on.
But not much later you arrive at a new crossroad. It's exactly like all the other ones you have encountered before.
"We're going right," Chishiya says firmly. Again you ask yourself why right and not left, but you agree anyway. Fighting about it or asking why doesn't help. You will always get the answer "Just because".
You follow him and you hear the hedge close behind you. When you look ahead, you see a turn in the path for the first time. All the other paths were always straight with no turns.
"That's new" you hear Chishiya say who has also noticed the change.
"A new part of the maze, perhaps?" you say "Maybe..."
"AHHH"
You let out a scream the moment you both turn the corner.
In the middle of the path you see one of the girls from the Beach on the ground. Clothes torn to shreds and blood stains all over her body.
You look in shock at Chishiya, who is also slightly surprised by the not so pleasant view in front of you. You slowly walk closer and you see that her body has been pierced in several places. Through her right shoulder, her stomach and half through her leg.
When you look a little closer, you also see small splinters and pieces of tree bark in the wounds. You quickly look back at the hedge, but it looks totally normal.
"Well, we now at least know where the scream came from." Chishiya says while pulling the girl's bag off her shoulder.
"That's hers, leave it alone." you say angrily as you reach for the bag, but Chishiya moves away from you and gets up. "She's dead anyway, after this game her remains will probably explode or something. Maybe we can use it."
You sigh and look at the body again. The shivers run down your spine. It doesn't matter how many times you have seen a dead body, it remains a horrible sight that gives you the creeps.
"The good thing is that we now know that there is something in here, ready to kill us." Chishiya says while running his hand along the hedge.
"Exactly so be careful." you say as you pull him away from the hedge.
Chishiya looks in the bag but closes it again after a few seconds.
"There is nothing useful in here." Chishiya says, throwing the bag back on top of the body. You get up, put the bag neatly next to her and sigh once again.
"Come on, we have no business here. We only have 45 minutes left and I don't think we're even close to the button."
Chishiya agrees and starts walking again. You look back at the body one more time. "You can rest now." you whisper to the body.
You turn around, ready to run after Chishiya. But when you start walking your way is blocked by a full grown hedge.
"Huh? What?"
You take a few steps back and see that a whole new hedge has grown on the path.
"How did this happen?! There was no crossroad or something like that at all. It was just a stupid path!"
You start to breathe more heavily and become uneasy. "Chishiya?! Can you hear me?! HELLO?!"
But once again as expected, dead silence.
You turn around and look at the path and at the girl's body. "How could I hear her screaming from such a distance, but can't I hear anything from Chishiya who is probably right behind this stupid hedge." you start talking to yourself.
You look up and see the moon shining. The moon has been your only source of light since this game started.
Ever since you were placed in this world, you learned to appreciate the moon a lot more. It is the only outside light that gives peace and has nothing to do with these deadly games.
You sigh as you look back down. The place where the turn used to be has now turned into a whole new path. You take your phone out of your pocket: 40 more minutes to go.
"I have to do this on my own now. You just have to walk through this stupid maze and look for that damn button." you speak to yourself to suppress the fear that builds up in your body.
"I can do this."
And with those words you begin to follow the new path.
Hey everyone! I hope you enjoyed this chapter. I decided to write several chapter about this maze game and to separate Y/N from Chishiya for some time. I did that because I reread my chapters yesterday and it felt like they were together all the time, and I don't think it would be realistic that way you know.
Anyways let me know what you think and see you in the next one - Iris 💗
