The Last Game - Alice in Borderland x Reader

~ 15 ~

30 minutes. 30 minutes have passed and still no god damn button. You feel that your legs are starting to hurt. It's cold and your throat is bone dry.

You hear the phone in your pocket say "Ten minutes left." but you don't care about it anymore. You don't care about that whole button anymore. You have given up all hope you had.

You have been walking for almost two hours now, which means that this maze is ginormous. So the change of you being close to the button is extremely small.

"How many players are killed at this point?" you wonder. You haven't seen a body since that dead girl from The Beach. "How is Arisu? And what about Chishiya? And Usagi? Usagi was very weak when she got here. Did the maze take advantage of that? What if-"

Suddenly you hear rustling behind you. You quickly turn around as your eyes scan the path, searching for the source of the sound.

You can see branches and tree roots growing over the ground. They slowly move towards each other and intertwine to form one large sharp branch.

"Oh heck no." you tell yourself when you see that the branch is sticking its point in your direction.

You take a few steps back while keeping your eyes on the large branch, which is now around the 4 inches thick and super sharp. It moves from left to right and just as you take another step back, the branch shoots forward.

You jump to the left to dodge the branch and you feel the bark of the branch scrape along your right arm, leaving a scrape. The tip of the branch has landed a few inches into the grond.

You scramble up as quickly as possible without taking your eyes off the branch. In a second the branch pulls itself out of the ground and focuses on you again. The thickness of the branch is now as thick as an average tree trunk.

"Run." that's all you can think of. And that's what you do. You run as fast as you can. Behind you you feel that branch shoots again, but misses.

"Just run." you keep telling yourself. "F*ck your burning throat, keep on running, as far and as fast as you can."

You stay so focused on running that you accidentally bump into someone at full speed. You fall forward and can just catch yourself with your hands.

"Ouch!" you hear the other person say. You jump up, still thinking about the big branch, and turn towards the person.

"I'm so sorry but- ARISU?!" you recognise the boy immediately. His head shots up when he hears your voice. He rubs his eyes and looks again, as if he were dreaming. "Oh my god Y/N thank god."

You reach your hands out and help him up. Arisu puts his hands on your shoulders and checks your entire body on wounds or scrapes. "Are you okay? Are you hurt? What happend?"

You take his hands off your shoulders and pull him further away from the place where the branch was. "Yes I'm fine and I'll explain what's going on in a minute, but now we have to get out of here as fast as possible." you answer while being out of breath.

Arisu runs after you, confused about why you are so stressed. "Why are we in such a hurry? What if we run past the button?!"

"Fuck that stupid button! If you want to live for the next 5 minutes and not die by a painful death, run!" Arisu is silent after your words and keeps running after you.

After a while you have no energie left in your body and your speed decreases. You sit down on the muddy ground while trying to catch your breath.

Arisu is standing next to you bent over with his hands on his knees, also out of breath.

"Explain, now" he says after a few seconds as he lifts you on your feet. You start walking and you tell him about the branch and what happened.

Arisu starts looking around frightened, afraid that suddenly a new branch will appear. In the meantime you take your phone out of your pocket.

"We're never going to make it." you say sighing while putting the phone back. "Don't say that. Come on, we gotta keep going until the time is up." Arisu pulls you with him by your sleeve.

You guys turn right, than left, then straight at a crossing, left again. And then you see light. Bright white light in the middle of the path. Behind you another hedge appears, closing the path behind you.

Your eyes have to get used to the bright light after all those dark paths of the maze. Suddenly a new hedge is created in the middle of the path. This one is extremely high, you can't even see where this hedge ends.

Then out of nowhere the tall hedge disappears and you see a red button on a white pillar. You eyes widen. "No f*cking way" you hear Arisu mutter.

You run to the button and press it with all the strength you have. In your pocket you can hear your phone speaking. You quickly pull it out.

Congratulations, you found the button. Safety is waiting at the exit of the maze for 30 minutes.
