The Last Game - Alice in Borderland x Reader

~ 16 ~

The seconds tick away as you and Arisu run through the maze.

"15 minutes left"

The robot's voice interrupts the sounds of heavy breathing and running footsteps. The two of you have been running for 15 minutes looking for that damn exit.

One thing you've noticed is that the hedges don't close behind you anymore. The maze is standing still. But despite that, you both didn't meet anyone yet.

Arisu stops running and bends over. "Let's have a quick break please, we have been running for such a long time. I didn't sleep much last night and I have no energy left..."

You also stop running and take a few deep breaths. Your throat is dry and feels like it's on fire. You feel pain in your calves and your thighs don't feel too good either.

"Okay, one minute then." You start stretching your body so that your lungs can properly fill with fresh air. Even though this maze is a horrible place, you have to say that all those hedges do provide nice, clean and fresh air for your lungs. You close your eyes briefly to come to yourself and to relax a bit.

But this soon comes to an end when you hear Arisu screaming. You quickly open your eyes, turn around and you see that a branch has emerged from the hedge and is now twisting around Arisu's ankle.

You run towards him and kneel down as fast as you can. You reach for the branch and start pulling it. You can see and feel that the grip of the branch is getting stronger and it's wrapping itself more and higher around his leg.

You try to unwrap the branch, but it doesn't move an inch. Instead, it starts to pull Arisu's leg towards the hedge. You pull Arisu towards yourself and Arisu wraps his arms around your waist.

Arisu starts kicking the branch with his other leg while you pull him away with all the strength you have left.

After a few seconds the branch begins to slowly let go, but suddenly Arisu starts screaming loudly again and tears are streaming down his cheeks.

When the branch completely let go of Arisu's leg, you pull him as far away from the branch as possible. Arisu let's go of you and grabs his lower leg, which is almost fully bloodied.

"WHAT HAPPEND, WHAT DID IT DO?!" you ask in panic, because clamping alone can't make a leg bleed that hard. You take the vest you are wearing and tie it tightly around his leg. That's something you learned from Chishiya. It helps slowing down the bleeding.

Arisu is slowly coming back to his senses and his breathing is slowing calming down as well. You wipe the tears from his face and help him carefully on his feet.

You put his arm over your shoulder and let him lean on you for extra support. "That branch grew spines that went into my leg." Arisu says, answering your question. You look at the branch and indeed see thick spines with blood.

"Jeez" you say looking at Arisu's leg. Your vest starts to turn red from the blood that is flowing out of it.

"10 minutes left"

"We gotta keep going, lean on me as much as you want and try to not stand on your leg too much. Just in case." You put your arm around his waist and you both slowly start walking.

You take the first bend right, then left, left again. And when you take the last bend, the two of you see a huge stone passage that is at least 10 meters high and 7 meters wide.

Above the door hangs a large, red shining board with  "EXIT" on it.

"OMG WE FOUND IT!" you want to start running towards the exit, but you remember that you have a whole Arisu leaning on you. You both run as fast you can inside.
