The Not So Small Family

It was later that day, no one had talked about what happened earlier. They were all doing their own thing, some people were relaxing in the living room other people were in their rooms, ect. JJ was of course snuggled up to Emily, her head on Emily's shoulder, Emily's arm wrapped around her. She was reading a book.

"What's that?" JJ asked when she didn't recognize the cover

"It's a book" Emily said not paying attention

"Or really?" She said, her voice laced with sarcasm "What's it about?"

"Well... You have to understand something first. It's not a normal book"

JJ gave her a questioning look "It's sort of like a riddle. The words are scrambled. I figured out that the words that were scrambled were latin but if you actually tried to read it is was... I don't know, disfunctional? So I translated it into Greek. That made more sense but still not enough so I tried more until English fit better so I translated the Greek words into english words but that still wasn't as smooth as it was supposed to be so I once again translated it into Romanian and it was close, just off a few words until I finally figured out that if I translated those Romanian words into russian it works perfectly so now I'm working on unscrambling them and translating them into each of the 5 languages."

The whole family was staring at her amazed but she continued "Reid gave it to me"

"I figured" JJ said with a small smile, happy that she's showing her dorky side in front of people who weren't the team or Matthew.

"He couldn't even figure it out. Probably because he doesn't know Romanian but still.

It's about the physics of rockets and like what it takes to build one. I already know most of this but it's still fun to read." Emily had a huge smile almost as big as Reid's when he talks about things that interests him. "It's also really interesting because the rockets weighed around 679,000 pounds which took roughly 3gs or three times the gravitational pull that you would have on earth jumping up and down. So they had to use g-force suits which were made up of two special types of fabric called Twaron and Nomex, even though I haven't gotten to that part." JJ was nodding enthusiasticly but looked lost.

"The suits usually weighs an average of up to 14 pounds- you don't understand what I'm saying do you?"

JJ had a sheepish smile "Sorry"

Emily shrugged, mumbled a slightly disappointed "It's fine" and went back to reading

JJ's mind went to the first time Emily was dorky, it was about a year after Emily joined the team. They were at Rossi's mansion having a family dinner

"Oh come on Rossi that's not true" Morgan said with a beer in his hand

"But my child it is" he responded raising his glass of scotch

"No it's not Rossi you can't be your own grandfather" Elle said

"Yes. It. Is. Aaron help me out here"

"Sorry kids-" he started

"No way!" Emily yelled excitedly

"What?" Garcia said inquisitively

"Reid has all of the quantum physics books and some of them are in different languages! I've been looking for those and I can't find them anywhere. I have the first two and I've read them multiple times I just can't find the rest and I didn't even know it came in more than one language!" Emily said buzzing from excitement

"Quantum what now?" Rossi asked confused

"Quantum physics" Emily and Reid said at the same time with the same huge smiles though Reid was more happy someone finally got him and could be excited about things he liked that others considered nerdy and often got picked on for

"You mean that thing" Garcia asked pointing to the very very thick book Spencer was holding

"Yeah!" Emily said looking at the book

"Your excited about that big ass book of quantum physics?" Morgan asked with his infamous eyebrow raised

Emily nodded her head eagerly

"Okay Reid" Morgan said mockingly

"You guys are such dorks" Elle said before everyone started laughing and continuing their own conversation

Emily's walls built a little higher at each chuckle that fell out of someones mouth. She knew she shouldn't have shown her dorky side, it never ended in anything but mockery and reject

"They do that a lot" Reid said distracting her

"Oh"

"Yeah" Reid chuckled out "you just get used to it"

"Doesn't it hurt?"

"Only if you think about it and let it get to you"

"Ok... Can I still talk to you about it though?"

Spencer looked her in the eye as a huge smile graced his face "of course"

Emily smiled once more and sat down next to Reid. They started talking about the book and how Reid got them. This was the first of many firsts. First time she hadn't gotten mocked or rejected by someone because she was dorky, the first time either of them could talk about something they enjoyed, the first of many Spencer and Emily moments, the first time they felt like brother and sister

JJ was pulled from her thoughts when she felt a feather light kiss on her hair line. She smiled wide and snuggled up closer to Emily in hopes of more contact and more heat.

"Are you cold?" The voice was barely over a whisper, so soft and gentle. At JJ's nod Emily grabbed a blanket, draping it over the two of them before laying back, her head against the arm rest. She pulled JJ on top of her and JJ wrapped her arms around Emily as she tucked her face where Emily's neck and shoulder meet.

"Do you want to take a little nap?"

JJ nodded her head before giving that spot a kiss. She felt a hand move hair away from her forehead and cheek then a kiss right on her cheek. JJ blushed as she felt her family's eyes on them but she couldn't bring herself to care enough to move out of the embrace that she has now claimed as home
