I saw it before I heard it

I saw it before I heard it. From the corner of my, I caught the movements of it shadow in amongst the bushes. I almost disregarded it until I saw the moonlight fall on a part of the creature's skin. And then I heard the sound of something crashing down. I didn't have the time to turn and see what it was before the creature right next to be screeched out loud.

My body moved on instincts, sliding away the from the creature. Neither us of needed to be told that we should run. There's only one near us, and if we run fast enough, we can get away before the other one finds us.

I caught Hoseok barely getting out of the creatures reach and stumble forward. Instinctively I moved to save him, but stumbled backwards when the creature turned towards me. I cursed under my breath, and spun around.

Oh good you're dumb enough to follow me, I thought to myself when I saw the creature turn towards me. I'm good at running. Maybe not the best, but I know I can stay out of those things' reach for just enough time to distract it away from the rest.

The moonlight was enough. Enough for me to run without tripping. I could manoeuvre  quietly easily in the bare minimum light. A ability I picked up from all the night I would wander my house at the middle of the night. After everything had gone dark.

I kept my eyes focused on the road ahead of me. Keeping an watch on the shadows of the roots and tree trunks. Trying not to get affected by the loud screeches from behind me. Or the way my heart was pounding feverishly in my chest. My lungs burning, and with each breath I took it ached more. Oxygen felt like gasoline.

But I didn't have to run far before I heard a loud pain in-human scream and loud thud. It was followed by a loud, angry scream. And then complete silence. I stumbled to a stop, barely managing to keep myself from falling down. But I felt someone grab harshly and pull me up.

"Keep on running, don't look back."

It was Hoseok, I realized. I glanced to my other sides. Panicking for a short moment when I didn't see Taehyung, Namjoon or Jin. I didn't have the chance to ask, before I heard the screech of the other creature. It was far, but if we didn't do something soon, it won't stay like that for long.

"Faster." I muttered under my breath. I knew I could run faster, but at the same time I couldn't leave Hoseok behind. I had to think of something.

"Kook this way." I heard Hoseok rasp before, before tugging on my hand to follow after him. My legs almost gave away underneath me. Skidding as I took a sharp turn. We kept on running until I notice something was different. It was too quiet. I could no longer hear those blood curling screeches. Slowly down just a little, I glance back. Furrowing my brows in confusion when I didn't see the creature running behind us.

Slowing down my pace, I eventually came to a stop. Turning around on my heel and looking around. Wondering if that things was lurking in the shadows, watching and waiting to attack.
