( December '71 )
Brooklyn stared at her house. She tried to contain her excitement as she opened the front door. Her parents followed behind her, setting her things down on the floor. Brooklyn sprinted up the stairs and to the right. She slowed down as she reached a door on the left.
Brooklyn opened the door, and almost started crying once she saw the person sitting on her bed. James Fleamont Potter was sitting on her bed, reading a book.
Brooklyn started to cry as she said, "Hi, James."
James looked up from the book and he had the biggest smile on his face. He stood up and embraced his twin sister. He held her tightly and kissed the top of her head. He never wanted to let go.
"I've missed you so much," Brooklyn said, slightly crying.
"I've missed you even more, little sis," James said, starting to cry now too. James let go of Brooklyn and they both plopped down on her bed.
"What were you doing in my room?" Brooklyn asked.
"I missed you so I went to see if your bed still smelled like you."
Brooklyn laughed as she wiped away her tears.
"Tell me about Hogwarts?" Brooklyn asked.
"Well, where do I start?" James pondered. "It's honestly so great there. As you know, there are four houses: Gryffindor, obviously the best, Slytherin, obviously the worst, Ravenclaw, I think you'd fit in well there, and Hufflepuff, the softies. If you were to go, I'd see you being in either Gryffindor, like me, or Ravenclaw. The classes we have there are: astronomy, charms, defense against the dark arts, herbology, history of magic, potions, transfiguration, and flying. Flying is only for first years though. We get to pick two electives before going into our third year."
"Oh, we don't have astronomy, herbology, or history of magic at Beauxbatons." Brooklyn commented. "Along with flying. We don't even have quidditch!"
"No quidditch? I'd die! I love the quidditch games! That's one of the best parts. I think you'd enjoy potions at Hogwarts. I think it's different from Beauxbatons. I also think you'd enjoy herbology, especially with all the plants you have in your room. History of magic is actually kinda boring, I've slept through class for the whole year. I think you'd like my friends. There's Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew."
"I know Remus Lupin. Him and I have been friends for a pretty long time. We've known each other for two or three years? At Beauxbatons we have to pick a muggle class that we have to take. I chose ballet and I'm going to move onto pointe already when I go back!"
"Why haven't you told me this? I didn't know you knew Remus!"
"Sorry, guess I kinda forgot. Also we're gonna have a new brother!"
"Wait, is mom pregnant?"
"No."
"Then how are we getting a new brother?"
"Mom and dad are adopting this boy I met. He's seven and his parents were killed right in front of him. I saw it too. The killing curse. His name is Jonathan."
"Oh, well that's not a good circumstance to get a new brother. But, I hope the kid likes it here."
"Yeah, I really hope so too. He's a bit shy when you first meet him. He's with mom and dad right now."
The two sat in silence for a bit.
"James?"
"Yeah?"
"I missed you. A lot. I cried myself to sleep for a long time."
"I missed you too. I'm sorry that I couldn't be there for you. I wish we went to the same school."
"Same. I wish mom and dad would let me go to Hogwarts. I think I'd benefit from Hogwarts, not Beauxbatons. Beauxbatons is making me want to rebel against their standards."
"If you ever need to talk to me, I'm here, always. You're my little sister. Nothing in the whole entire world could make me not love you."
"I think I like a girl."
"What?"
"I think I like a girl." Brooklyn repeated looking down at her hands.
"Well, okay, I support you. I wasn't expecting that. It just came out of nowhere. I'll always support you. So does this mean you're gay?" James asked.
"No. I like boys too. Jack, one of my friends from school, told me that I'm probably bisexual."
"Oh bisexual is when you like boys and girls right?"
"Yeah."
"Okay, I wasn't too sure. Since you said you think you like a girl, what's her name?"
"Her name is Quinn. She's my roommate and a second year. She's really pretty. She has dirty blonde hair and freckles. She doesn't like her freckles but they make her even more perfect."
James watched as his sister's eyes lit up as she talked about Quinn. He wanted her to be happy. It didn't matter who she loved, he would always look at her the same, and love her the same as before.
"She sounds pretty cool." James commented.
"Yeah, she is. She has the same birthday as us and she has a twin brother too! We're gonna meet up at Hogsmeade sometime over break. She's bringing her brother and I told her that I'd bring you."
"Okay, I'm good with that. Just let me know when. By the way, some of my friends are coming over for Christmas. I've already checked with mom and dad. They said you could invite Jack."
"Oh they did? They didn't tell me. Well, I'll have to check with them later. Anyways, tell me more about Hogwarts!"
"Quidditch is really cool. It's way cooler than when we play at home. Maybe if you go, we'll play on the same team. Teams are separated by house though. So get into Gryffindor then try out for chaser. You'd make an excellent chaser. Me, obviously, I'll be a chaser as well. My friend Sirius would probably be keeper. He sure knows how to keep a lady's heart."
Brooklyn looked at James weirdly for his last comment.
"I'm gonna go downstairs to talk to mom and dad. I'll be back."
Brooklyn ran out of her room and downstairs to the kitchen, where she knew her parents would be. They sat at the table with Jonathan. Brooklyn hadn't seen Jonathan since before they left Beauxbatons.
"Mom? Dad?"
"Yes, honey?"
"Could I maybe go to Hogwarts next year?" Brooklyn asked shyly.
"Well, honey, your father and I would have to think about it. We'll give you an answer towards the end of this year." Euphemia said, smiling.
"Okay," Brooklyn said, casting her glance downwards. She nodded at Jonathan before leaving.
