chapter eight; a heart-to-heart

( November '71 )

Remus Lupin was very tired. He didn't get much sleep the previous night due to James and Sirius's snoring. He had gotten up early that morning, planning on moving down to the common room to hopefully get some sleep.

Remus found James laying on the couch, crying. Remus felt bad for James, so like a good friend does, Remus comforted James.

"What's wrong?" asked Remus.

"Do you ever miss someone so badly that it hurts?" James asked.

"Well, actually, no. I don't have many people to miss. My mom and dad, I do miss though. I miss them a lot but probably not as much as you miss that someone," said Remus, "you'll be fine after some time. They say time fixes things, but sometimes it just helps you miss somebody less. You might be able to see that someone you miss soon. Christmas is coming up so maybe you'll see whoever at Christmas."

"We used to do everything together," said James, "I'm worried that we're not going to be doing everything together anymore."

"Don't think about that," said Remus, "just remember all the good times you had together. Think of all the good moments. Don't fret, James, don't fret."

Meanwhile, Sirius and Peter walked down the seven flights of stairs that led to the Great Hall. Down the corridor from the Great Hall, was the Hufflepuff common room. Sirius and Peter knew that the kitchens were near the Hufflepuff common room.

They walked up to the portrait and tickled the pear. They walked inside the kitchen where house elves were running around all over the place getting things ready for that night's dinner. The kitchen was beautiful. The architecture was old but beautiful.

A house elf appeared in front of Sirius and Peter. The house elf startled Peter so bad that he nearly peed in his pants. Sirius laughed at Peter's reaction. Peter blushed a deep shade of red. The house elf looked very upset about scaring Peter.

"H-hello," said the house elf, trembling, "my-my name is R-Ronny. How may I-I be of service t-to you?"

Sirius bent down to the house elf's height saying, "Could you get us some spaghetti and meatballs, like tons of it?"

"Yes s-sir," said Ronny.

He snapped his fingers and disappeared.

"He's fun, isn't he?" asked Sirius.

"Uh, yeah," said Peter, not having payed attention to the entire conversation.

Dear Mom and Dad,

I need you to talk to Headmistress Maxine. I've been constantly bullied by Evanna Ross. She wouldn't leave me alone. She tore up the letter I was going to send to James. She's been calling me names like "worthless" and "ugly" and "a nobody". I'm sadly starting to believe her.

She also tells me that nobody loves me and James isn't my actual twin and that I'm adopted. She told me a bunch of other things that I do not want to repeat because they're so horrible. I can't go to Headmistress Maxine myself because Evanna Ross will continue bullying me. Knowing her, she'd probably call me a wimp for going to Headmistress Maxine.

Lots of love,

Brooke

Brooklyn signed off the letter and sent it off. Luckily she was in her dorm so Evanna wouldn't look at the letter. Evanna's bullying was getting worse and worse. She was bothering Brooklyn so much, that Brooklyn would be scared walking outside of the common room.

Jack tried to get Evanna off Brooklyn's case. It sadly didn't work. Evanna would start picking on her little cousin as well. Brooklyn then got Evanna off of Jack's case. It was definitely hard to get Evanna to stop bullying her little cousin, but Brooklyn managed.

Brooklyn felt like she was slowly breaking from the inside out. She kept believing the things that Evanna told her and it made her look at herself in a different light. Growing up, Brooklyn was always confident and she seemed to fit in. Now, she doesn't fit in because she isn't a veela and she isn't a blonde or brunette. Also, she used to never call herself ugly when she looked at herself in the mirror, but now she does and it hurts.

Tons of words and thoughts float around in Brooklyn's mind. When someone gets mad at her, she thinks that the person is mad at her because she isn't good enough or trying her hardest. And when someone doesn't like her, she goes out of her way to try to get the person to like her. It's a reoccurring process. Just like when someone yells at her, she cries. She doesn't know why she cries but she just does. She doesn't like people yelling at her.
