chapter one; hogwarts letters

( March '71 )

Brooklyn and James Potter were inseparable since birth. They did everything together. From pranking their parents to eating the same foods. They fought once in a while but they always made up afterwards. Brooklyn and James are fraternal twins. James looked like his dad with striking blue eyes and messy brown hair. Brooklyn looked like her mom with hazel eyes and strawberry-blonde hair.

Their father, Fleamont Potter, had gotten rich after inventing Sleekeazy's Hair Potion. Mr. Potter was sorted into Gryffindor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. James and Brooklyn both took after their father with his love for pranks.

Their mother, Euphemia Potter, had trouble getting pregnant resulting in getting pregnant with the twins at seventy-five. With Mrs. Potter's struggle to get pregnant, she spoiled the twins in any way possible. When she first got pregnant, she thought that she was going to only have one kid but she was blessed with two healthy babies.

This morning was different from others. It was always quiet when Mr. and Mrs. Potter woke up seeing as James and Brooklyn were night owls and definitely not morning people. When Brooklyn and James would wake up, the house was always loud until they fell asleep. When it was quiet Mr. and Mrs. Potter would know that the twins were up to something.

Mr. Potter woke up his wife and made his way to the bathroom. Mrs. Potter sat in bed still trying to adjust to the light. She looked at Mr. Potter's pocket-watch seeing that it was already ten-thirty. Mrs. Potter's eyes widened. Brooklyn and James should already be awake, but the house was quiet. Too quiet

Mrs. Potter got up and went to the bathroom where Mr. Potter was doing his hair.

"Fleamont, don't you think the house is quiet for ten-thirty?" Mrs. Potter asked her husband.

"Well with your talking it isn't quiet anymore," Mr. Potter stated.

Mrs. Potter rolled her eyes before saying, "Brooklyn and James are always up by ten! It's now ten-thirty and there's no yelling or no pranks being set off."

"Maybe they stayed up too late last night," Mr. Potter said taking his toothbrush and starting to brush his teeth. Mrs. Potter ignored her husband and went to check on her children.

She opened up Brooklyn's door first. Brooklyn was sleeping silently with the covers over her head. Mrs. Potter shut the door as quietly as possible and walked to James's room. James was too sleeping with the covers over his head.

Mrs. Potter went downstairs and to the kitchen to make herself a cup of tea. Maybe the kids did stay up too late last night, Mrs. Potter thought to herself. She hummed to herself as she got her tea ready. About ten minutes later, Mr. Potter emerged from upstairs.

"Are the kids still asleep or are they outside?" Mr. Potter asked stealing Mrs. Potter's cup of tea from her hands.

"I didn't make that tea for you," started Mrs. Potter smacking Mr. Potter on the shoulder lightly. "And the twins are sleeping still, which I still think is odd by the way."

"Don't worry about it Mia," said Mr. Potter, kissing his wife on the cheek.

"How can I not? They're my babies," asked Mrs. Potter.

"They're not babies anymore," started Mr. Potter. "They're turning eleven today. They'll be off to Hogwarts before you know it."

"Don't say that," said Mrs. Potter. "I don't want them to leave me yet."

"Euphemia they're not going to leave you," said Mr. Potter, "They'll just be at school in a different country."

"That doesn't make it any better," said Mrs. Potter.

Brooklyn and James were stood at the top of the stairs, listening in on their parents' conversation. They were hidden from Mr. and Mrs. Potter's sight.

James and Brooklyn both looked at each other when Mrs. Potter said, "That doesn't make it any better."

James and Brooklyn rushed down the stairs and tackled their mother in a hug. They knew how much she worried about them. They knew about their mother's struggle of getting pregnant. That only made the twins care for their mother more.

When the twins pulled back from the hug, Mrs. Potter was sniffling and had tears welled up in her eyes. Brooklyn gave her mother a handkerchief. Mrs. Potter took the handkerchief and smiled at her two children.

"Happy birthday you two," Mrs. Potter said smiling radiantly.

"Thank you mom," the twins said in unison.

Mickey, their house-elf, Apparated in the kitchen holding a box.

"Hello Mickey," the twins greeted in unison.

"Hello young Master Potter and young Mistress Potter," started Mickey. "I baked a cake for you."

"Thank you Mickey," thanked Brooklyn. She took the cake from Mickey and put in on the table.

"Where's dad?" asked James.

"He's getting the mail from our little Owlery," answered Mrs. Potter.

"Do you think we'll get our Hogwarts letters today?" questioned Brooklyn.

"I think so," started Mrs. Potter. "Just wait until your father gets back with the mail."

And with Mrs. Potter's sentence, Mr. Potter came through the door with mail clutched in his hands.

"James there's something for you," said Mr. Potter. "Brooklyn there's three things for you."

Brooklyn took her three letters in her hands. One letter was from Molly Weasley. One letter was from Beauxbatons Academy of Magic! One letter was from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!

"Mom! Dad! I got a letter from Hogwarts and Beauxbatons!" exclaimed Brooklyn.

"That's wonderful dear," said Mr. Potter.

"Which one do you think you'll accept?" asked Mrs. Potter.

"I'm not sure. I think it'll be fun to learn at Beauxbatons but if I don't like it I might go to Hogwarts," answered Brooklyn.

"I got my Hogwarts letter," said James.

"Proud of you Jamesie!" said Brooklyn pulling her brother into a hug.

"I think you should go to Beauxbatons, Brooke," said James.

"I'll have to do more thinking on it."
