March 27 was Brooklyn and James' thirteenth birthday. Thirteen was a big number – at least in terms of age. It finally meant that the Potter twins were teenagers. Being a teenager was a big deal to Brooklyn because it meant that they were finally growing up.

Brooklyn woke to the sound of Lily moving things around her nightstand. Brooklyn groaned as she sat up.

"What time is it?" Brooklyn asked.

"It's five in the morning." Lily grimaced. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you. I lost something."

"What did you lose?" Brooklyn asked. "I can help you find it."

"No!" Lily said, a little too loud and quick. "I mean, no thank you."

"Why not?" Brooklyn asked, suspicious.

"Its just, you need your sleep!" Lily said. "Today is your birthday and you really should be sleeping."

"Okay." Brooklyn eyed Lily.

Brooklyn headed to Slughorn's classroom in a rush. She was handing something to Slughorn from McGonagall. She didn't know why but McGonagall trusted her with the paperwork.

As Brooklyn rounded the corner, she bumped into a hard surface. She had bumped into a boy and his books were scattered everywhere.

"Oh my goodness!" Brooklyn said. "I am so sorry. I didn't mean to."

"You're okay." The boy said. "It was my fault. I wasn't paying attention."

The boy had dark, shaggy hair and dark eyes. He looked young but he was strikingly attractive.

"I'm Brooklyn Potter." Brooklyn introduced herself.

"I'm Regulus Black."

They shook each other's hands.

"I know your brother." Brooklyn said. "He's my brother's best friend."

"My brother is a real piece of work." Regulus said.

"Mine too." Brooklyn said. "What class are you headed to? I'll walk you there and explain why you're late."

"Potions." Regulus replied.

"You were going in the wrong direction." Brooklyn said.

"I know." Regulus replied. "I realized that once I bumped into you. I still get lost."

"That's okay!" Brooklyn said as they started walking. "What's your favorite class?"

"Defense Against the Dark Arts." Regulus said.

"That is a good one." Brooklyn said. "Do you know what you want to be when you grow up?"

"No clue." Regulus said. "What about you?"

"I want to be an auror." Brooklyn said.

"Not a professional quidditch player?" Regulus said.

"How do you know I play quidditch?" Brooklyn asked.

"I saw you at the game versus Slytherin." Regulus blushed. "You did really well. I was impressed. Not everyone could do that, especially at your age."

They reached Slughorn's classroom.

"Excuse me, Professor Slughorn." Brooklyn said. "I have this paper from McGonagall. Also, it's my fault Regulus Black here is late. He aided me in McGonagall's task."

"No problem Miss Potter." Slughorn said. "You may head back."

"Bye Regulus." Brooklyn said. "I'll see you another time."

"Why is my brother staring at you?" Sirius asked.

They were sitting in the dining hall for dinner.

"No clue." Brooklyn replied. "It's whatever."

"It is not whatever." Sirius said. "He shouldn't be staring over here. It's not his place."

"What do you mean it's not his place?" Brooklyn said.

"I just mean that he shouldn't be staring at you." Sirius said.

"Why can't he stare at me?" Brooklyn asked because she wasn't getting a straight clear answer from Sirius.

"Because you're mine." Sirius mumbled.

"I'm not anybody's." Brooklyn fumed.

"That's not what I meant Brooklyn." Sirius said. "You know that. I just mean that you're my friend, not his. He always gets what he wants and I want to keep you to myself."

"I am not your friend, Sirius Black." Brooklyn said. "Especially not after that little stunt you pulled."

"Alright, it's our birthday." James interjected. "Let's not get into an argument or cry."

"I'm sorry, Brooklyn." Sirius said. "I should have not been like this on your birthday and I apologize."

Brooklyn ignored him.

"How's your stomach?" Remus whispered into Brooklyn's ear.

"The scars are mostly gone." Brooklyn whispered back. "They're faint but they're okay."

Remus gave Brooklyn a tight-lipped smile. He still felt guilty about the full moon during Christmas break.

"Brooke, you are going to love my gift." Jack gushed.

"Jack Dawson, I told you to not get me a gift." Brooklyn said.

Sirius watched Brooklyn with great intensity. He clenched his jaw. He was upset that she wasn't talking to him. He could feel himself getting more and more jealous as Brooklyn continued talking to Remus and Jack. He knew she felt nothing for them and it wasn't even the fact that she was talking to other guys. It was the fact that she wasn't talking to him.

Jack was sitting next to Sirius and Sirius was sitting in between Peter and Jack. Brooklyn sat right across from Sirius and in between James and Remus. The seating arrangements put Sirius in an uncomfortable position because every time he would look up while eating, Brooklyn was there.

Dinner was dragging on and Brooklyn kept yapping the whole time. James had interjected a couple of times but it was mainly Brooklyn that was talking.

"Happy birthday, Potter." Cody Jefferson told Brooklyn as he walked past.

"Thank you." Brooklyn said.

"Alright what the fuck was that?" Sirius said, raising his voice.

"I'm so done with you." Brooklyn threw her napkin on the table and left.

James gave Sirius a look before going to chase after his sister.
