chapter six; annoyed by james

( October '71 )

"The name's James Potter, beautiful," said James into the mirror in his dormitory. He just saw Lily Evans and thought she was super pretty. He started to practice talking to her in the mirror.

If only Brooklyn were here to help me, thought James. He missed Brooklyn as much as she missed him. He probably missed her even more than she missed him. James continued to have a fake conversation with Lily in the mirror before his roommates walked in.

"What are you doing James?" asked Remus.

"Having a fake conversation with Lily Evans," James answered sheepishly.

Sirius snorted and Remus chuckled. Peter had no clue what was going on.

"You've taken an interest in her I assume?" asked Sirius still grinning.

"Of course I have. Why else would I be having a fake conversation with her?" retorted James.

"Good luck," said Remus patting James on the back before heading into the bathroom. Sirius jumped onto his bed before taking his shirt off.

"Do you think she'll like me or at least talk to me?" asked James nervously.

"I'm sure she'll at least talk back to you," said Sirius. "Just go talk to her. Go now before she heads up for bed."

"Okay, thanks Sirius," said James.

"No problem," said Sirius.

James rushed out the door and down the steps. He walked into the common room where Lily Evans was sitting on the couch, reading a book.

"Hello," said James politely.

Lily looked up from her book and stared into James's blue eyes.

Her eyes are burning into my soul, James thought.

"Hello," said Lily back.

"I don't think we've been introduced. I'm James Potter," said James.

"I'm Lily Evans," said Lily.

"You're pretty," James blurted out.

"Thanks," said Lily.

"I was uh wondering, if you would accompany me in a prank on Filch?" asked James slightly stuttering a bit.

"Why would you play a prank on an old man?" asked Lily.

"Because, why not?" asked James.

"Leave the man alone," said Lily annoyed.

Lily shut her book but not before marking her place. She walked up the stairs towards her dormitory. She shared her dormitory with three other girls, Alice Fortescue, Nailea and Marlene McKinnon. There was one bed that was unoccupied. Lily didn't understand why there was nobody occupying the bed.

Lily sat down on her bed and got out a piece of parchment along with a quill. She started writing her letter.

Dear Brooklyn,

Hopefully this letter reaches you at Beauxbatons. It's Lily Evans here, the girl you met in Diagon Alley. I just talked to James Potter and noticed that he had the same last name as you. Are you siblings? Or are you completely not related?  Sorry if you're related to him, he seems too full of himself. He kept messing with his hair when he was walking over to me.

I hope everything is going well over at your school. I did some reading on Beauxbatons and it seems like a lovely school. Not as good as Hogwarts, but it still seems lovely. Are there any boys there? I heard that it was an only girls school but I'm not one to believe rumors.

Sincerely,

𝐿𝒾𝓁𝓎 𝐸𝓋𝒶𝓃𝓈

Lily sealed the envelope and sent off the owl. She then changed into her pajamas before going to bed.

Brooklyn read over Lily's letter twice at breakfast the next morning. She kept laughing at the part where Lily mentioned that James seems too full of himself. She knows her brother is way too full of himself.

Dear Lily,

James Potter indeed is my brother. He's my best friend also. He's a bit full of himself. I have really bad separation anxiety from him. He's always been there for me. And that does sound like him, messing up his hair thinking he's cool. I love him a lot though. Like I said, he's always there for me.

It's not really a lovely school. I get stared at a lot since I don't have blonde or dirty blonde hair like the rest of the school. You know red-head things. There are boys here. I've made a friend that's a boy. Just about the only friend I've made here. Everyone else seems to hate me or strongly dislike me.

Sincerely,

𝐵𝓇𝑜𝑜𝓀𝓁𝓎𝓃 𝒫𝑜𝓉𝓉𝑒𝓇

Before Brooklyn could put the folded letter in the envelope, the letter is snatched out of her hands.

"'James Potter indeed is my brother. He's my best friend also. He's a bit full of himself. I have really bad separation anxiety from him,'" said a blonde-haired girl.

Brooklyn had never seen the girl around before, but the girl was really pretty.

"Give me back my letter please," said Brooklyn trying to find her voice.

"'Give me back my letter please,'" mocked the girl. "You don't need the letter, freak."

The girl tore up the letter and laughed.

"You're the freak by tearing up a first year's letter," said Brooklyn finding her voice.

"No, I'm not. Unlike you, I belong in the world. Everyone loves me, while everyone hates you," said the girl.

She walked away with a disgusted look on her face. Jack came up behind Brooklyn and wrapped his arms around her waist and put his head on her shoulder.

"Sadly, she's related to me," said Jack.

"She is?" asked Brooklyn.

"Yeah, but I don't like her and I'm not like her. She's my second cousin," said Jack.

"Well, what she said hurt, really bad," said Brooklyn.

"I'm here for you, I'm here for you," repeated Jack. He placed a kiss on Brooklyn's cheek before taking her off to Potions class.
