With a crown of
Blue and red lights
Flashing a warning
The red vehicle is here again
To remind us
Of the situation we are inAnd people just
Walk up to the ambulance
With their masks on
Their gait casual
Yet there's something in their eyes
A fear
Which we see in ours
When we look into the mirror
A fear which isn't a hoax
A fear which isn't a delusion
A fear which is our reality. Our hearts flutter,
Thoughts clutter.
We quickly remember
To strap on our masks
Though we're peering down
From the fifth floor
They look up once at us
And we just pray silently
'Let this be the last case'But it isn't
Somehow the ambulance
Is back again the next day
'One more case,' they whisper
Their eyes speak a lot more
Than their lips ever will
One more person will
Either stay in hospital
Or be locked in the solitary prison
Of their rooms.Why?
Because they have to do the work
They pledged to serveAt the cost of what?
'You're the saviours,' they say
'All praise to the healthcare heroes'But maybe,
We don't want to be 'saviours'
We just want to 'be saved'Maybe we just need to 'be saved'
Author's Note : The second covid 19 wave is real, the strain is deadlier. the threat is real... Please please please don't underestimate it. If you want to save us, save yourselves first, that'll help save us.
