"The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are." Joseph Campbell
"Raptor!" I swing my head to where the sound is coming from. I recognized the voice as Tony Stark. I couldn't help the roll of my cloudy eyes.
"What do you want Stark?"
"Fury wants you." I let out a sigh and sheath my katanas in my belt before whistling. I hear the telltale sign of Rex trotting over the floors. Rex is a black Labrador with one spunky personality, but he does his job. What's that you ask? He's my seeing eyes dog. Yes, I'm blind. I'm one of the world's most well-known assassins and I'm blind. I was in a car accident when I was 5 from what I've been told and I can't remember anything before that.
"Don't touch him Stark." I give what I believe to be a blank stare - which I know freaks him out when I take forever to blink.
"How did you know that I was going to?"
"Easy. Rex tensed. I could feel it against my leg and felt the harness shift slightly. It would have been another few seconds before I heard a growl and then he would bark and possibly bite. Need I say more?"
"No." He mumbles before he retreats. I sigh again before both Rex and I make our way to Fury's office. I'll take this time to properly introduce myself. My name is Andrea Svala Holmes. I'm 17 years old, I live on the edge of New York on my weekends but during the week I stay at the Avengers - or formally known as Stark - Tower were I train with the 7 idiots who call it home. Now I say idiots with the greatest respect... But they need to be put away. They are an un-coordinated bunch. Anyway, I've been coming to the Tower since I was 8, so that's 9... Almost 10 years that I've been training and picking up my world renowned title. Oh, then there is my name. Raptor; I was given that name about 3 years ago because I seem to be able to sneak up on my target like the velociraptors from Jurassic Park. They don't see me coming till it's too late.
"Andrea!" I turn my head slightly to face where the voice had come from. The voice belonged to Dr. Bruce Banner. He has been running physiotherapy tests on me every week due to an outstanding injury from one of my assignments that seemed to be taking its bloody time to heal. He says it should be back to normal in about 2 to 3 more weeks. He said something about my muscular system being more resilient to damage, meaning that technically, my injury should have been a lot worse and unable to heal properly.
"Yeah?"
"How's your leg?" Bruce was like a father to me. Considering I don't know my real father; I guess Bruce is as good as it gets. I wouldn't want any other. I smile.
"It's a bit stiff but other than that, it's perfect."
"The stiffness will ease off after a few weeks, but I'm glad that you're feeling better." I'm pretty sure he's smiling. The only time that he doesn't seem to smile is when he changes to his alter ego AKA The Hulk. When he turns to that creature all you hear are roars and very heavy breathing. Not exactly the best picture for someone like me. Although I will admit one thing, I see flashes. Flashes of a boy... Er... Man? Anyway, I see him and he seems to be the only thing I can see clearly. I've seen him ever since I was 7 and it confused me.
I kept quiet about these flashes because honestly? SHIELD has enough trouble with the unexplained. There have been a few instances in the past with that and quite honestly, I could do without the extra torment when I'm already high-strung enough as it is.
"I better get going, Fury wants to see me. I'll come by later for the session."
"Sure. See ya later Andrea."
"Bye Bruce." I smile again before I continue on to the daunting door that awaits my arrival. Now there is also another thing you should know. I live in an Alternate Universe or AU. How do I know this? I've met people from other AU's, one being Rebecca Banner, Bruce's half-sister from what I remember. Not my Bruce's sister, her universes Bruce's sister. We've only met once... Even then I don't know what she looks like - for obvious reasons.
