"To Love and be loved is to feel the sun from both sides." David Viscott
You know how I said before that I'm glad that Steven and I were going to get married? I was, until I had to start looking for a wedding dress. I love his mum, I really do, but she has been the most excited about having to go dress shopping and I'm one of those people that really only goes for the simple things in life.
"Try this one on." I lifted my gaze from the finger where the engagement ring sat and looked up at the dress that Sophia was holding out. I spared it a glance before turning to Sophia, who gave the dress back to the sales woman before walking over and sitting beside me. "What's troubling you?"
"I love Steven I really do, but can't I just wear a simple dress? They all look very extravagant... It's as if it would just swallow me up." I looked back at the dress again. It was beautiful, but I don't think that it showed my character at all. It looked like something a Disney princess would wear and that's just not me. Sophia chuckled and rubbed my back, soothing me.
"It's normal to feel nervous-"
"But it's not supposed to happen until the day! That's why it's called Wedding Day Jitters!"
"Oh honey, every bride is different. You might make it through the entire day without any butterflies in your stomach, some brides freak out during the preparations, sometimes because they try too hard to have it perfect. Everyone is different. The main thing is that you're with someone you love, as long as you know that, you shouldn't have any major problems." I smile a little at her, feeling a little uneasy. Those butterflies were getting an early start.
"What about the minor problems?"
"There's no escaping them. Mostly those are things like walking down the aisle and suddenly trying to remember whether you put deodorant on or whether you brushed your teeth after breakfast. Those ones are generally nothing serious."
"Sophia?"
"Yes?"
"Where you nervous when you got married to Murray?" She laughed softly at my question.
"Of course I was. I almost ran out of the church on my wedding day. I was so sure that Murray didn't really love me and that he was betting with friends to see if he could get any girl to marry him."
"What changed your mind?" A smile spread across her face as she grabbed my hand softly.
"Murray himself came and talked to me." My eyes went wide. "Now I know that the groom isn't supposed to see the bride before the wedding but he came to see me and I'm glad he did. He could tell that I was nervous and he said words to me I will never forget. He grabbed my hands, looked me in the eye and said, 'Soph, I don't know what's going on in that head of yours, but I love you. I have since the day I met you and I'm marrying you because of that love I have for you.'" Sophia looked at me. "You're bound to feel nervous. It's inevitable. However, the end result is what we're looking at. A happy life full of love wins over all the nervousness." I smiled at her before wrapping my arms around her neck and hugging her.
"Thank you Sophia." I felt her smile as she kissed my temple.
"I'm glad that Steven found you Andrea. This is the happiest I've ever seen him," She pulled back and lifted my head so that she could look at my face, "and it's all because of you. I'm happy you're going to be a daughter-in-law." I smiled at her.
"That means a lot to me, it really does."
"Now come on. At least try on the dress, if you don't like it then we can try others until we find one that suits you." I look back at the saleswoman who was still holding the dress with a smile and sighed.
