"I have a conscious, it's just selective." Kilgrave, Marvel's Jessica Jones.
The last few days have been very interesting. One, there was the proposal which I was not expecting but happy that it happened. I couldn't stop looking at the ring on my finger. I kept feeling like I was living in a dream. Nonetheless, whenever I looked at my finger, there sat the ring that Steven had put onto my finger that fateful night.
Words flashed beyond my hand. GAME OVER flashed brightly on the TV screen. I sighed. I had never really been one for playing video games. It's a bit hard to when you're blind and then I've always preferred the real world to anything pixelated.
The remote in my other hand was vibrating so much that when I put it down on the coffee table the sound grated on my nerves and took the battery out of it just to stop it. Of course then the console decided that I needed to reconnect the controller. So I turned off the TV so I wouldn't have to look at the screen.
I was alone in the house. Steven was at work, Sophia was out shopping with some of her girlfriends and Murray was also at work. I had to wait a bit before the job that Murray offered me would work out. He's trying to work it all out with the board people since apparently, I'm not qualified enough for the job but I know that it just means that I haven't handed in a resume and in all honesty with my last profession, I don't think they'd consider me if they knew that I used to kill people for a living.
Truth be told, I felt a little lazy. I hadn't gone for a walk or anything active for a while and I could almost swear that I had gained a little bit of weight. Not much, just enough to be noticeable, if you were looking for any differences.
Loki was sitting next to me and reading a book, completely oblivious to what had just occurred in a fictional place on the TV screen. I couldn't believe that he had come over for the proposal. Bruce had come over as well but he had to go back almost straight after due to something that Fury had him working on. Logan, Lois and Jared had come and were staying in a hotel not far from Sophia and Murray's house. They were here for another week I think before they would head back to Australia. It's been good to see Lois again. We spent the day together the other day and talked about all sorts of things from boys, to what had been happening since Christmas and everything between. No one else had come across from the States to visit but I could understand that they were all sorts of busy.
I heard keys jingling and the front door open, the sweet scent of cinnamon wafting through the room. I closed my eyes and sighed. I loved the smell of cinnamon and at this point I also loved what was carrying them. I got up and ran to the door and smiled at Steven who had walked in with a box that had the amazing smell coming from it. Steven wasn't looking at me as he fiddled with the key from the lock and jumped a little when he looked to see me. "Where'd you materialize from?"
"Can I have some?" I asked completely dismissing his question. He looked at the box in his hand, then at me and back at the box before kicking the door shut behind him.
"I don't know. I don't think you deserve one." He took calculated steps towards me. "After all, what could you possibly want with a dozen, sweet-smelling, cinnamon-coated," my mouth started to water as a grin started to spread across my fiancé's face "jam filled pieces of heaven?" He held the box under my nose and I couldn't resist taking a deep breath of the cinnamon goodness from within the box.
"Steven," I whine pathetically, "stop teasing me." He chuckles before lifting the lid. I dared to look down at saw the donuts, licking my lips at the thought of them.
"Take one. Go on." I look up at him, his smiling face greeting me. I smile back at him before taking a donut and skipping back into the lounge room after giving him a quick peck on the lips.
