Diana and Aragorn were both tracking Frodo and Boromir. They found the scuffle sight in the woods, but neither was there. She followed Frodo's frantic path upwards and saw Frodo fall backwards.

The approached him and saw him lying on his back panting. At Aragorn's voice, the hobbit flinched and scrambled upward and away from them. "It has taken Boromir."

"Where is the ring?" Aragorn demanded. Her brother surged forward and Diana pulled at his arm. "Stay away!" Frodo yelled in fear. "I swore to protect you."

"We both did. You can trust us." Diana agreed. Frodo didn't move as she approached, but stopped a few feet away. She crouched down to her knees, a gentle and soft smile on her face. He was still frightened from his encounter with Boromir.

"Can you protect me from yourself?" he asked. It was posed to Aragorn, he looked at Diana with trust in his eyes as he held the ring out to her. Aragorn stopped, looking at it. "Frodo, I've felt the coldness of the ring when I'm near it. It is not my burden to bear, I do not want it." she assured him.

Frodo launched himself at her, gasping in relief, hugging her tightly. She stroked his head, gently. She looked up at Aragorn who looked at them both before crouching down in front of Frodo. "Would you destroy it?"

Aragorn reached for the Ring in Frodo's hand, his own hovering inches over it. Diana held her breath, she didn't want to fight Aragorn. They rarely fought, if ever. Finally his trance broke and he curled Frodo's hand over it. "I would have gone with you to the end. We both would have." he looked up at his sister, who let out a breath of relief. "Into the very fires of Mordor."

"I know." Frodo said, looking at them both. Aragorn was holding his hand around Diana's waist as her own arm was still around Frodo's. "Look after the others, especially Sam. He will not understand."

A blue gleam caught Aragorn's eye making Frodo look down at his glowing blade. "Run." Aragorn told him. He nodded, but before he left Diana gave him a hug and a quick kiss on his cheek.

Aragorn stood beside Diana who unsheathed her sword. They nodded to each other. She parried the Uruk's blades, and Aragorn retreated up the stairs of the ruin. Meanwhile, Diana was slowly being pushed backwards. "Find the haflings!" their leader yelled.

Aragorn and Diana were surrounded. Diana was cutting her way through the battle when an arrow whizzed by her. Legolas and Gimli came into view "Aragorn, Diana go!" Legolas yelled. As she passed him, he grabbed her arm. "Don't die." he pleaded. She nodded.

She had to fight her way through the monsters as she searched for Merry, Sam, and Pippin. There were too many to stop fully, and blood already dripped down from a cut above her eye that she had received. She wouldn't be able to track the hobbits in this carnage, the Uruk Hai had covered all of the tracks.

A horn sounded throughout the forest and she ignored all of the Uruk-Hai that were not in front of her and ran to where she heard the horn of Gondor blowing.

She made it to Boromir's side and together they fought the Urak-hai, until a arrow pierced Boromir in the chest. She screamed in horror and continued to fight, along with Boromir.

Another arrow pierced Boromir, but they continued fighting. They continued cutting down the Uruks and a third arrow pierced Boromir. The Uruks picked Merry and Pippin up as they ran to fight.

A Uruk picked her up and she struggled, as she dropped her sword, screaming in despair. Another Uruk came up behind her and banged his blunt end of his sword against her temple until she blacked out, blood seeping out from it.

***Boromir***

I fell to my knees and the hobbits and Diana were carried out of the forest, the Uruks having trouble with Diana, until they managed to knock her out.

The leader was about to shoot another arrow at me, but Aragorn barreled  into him and they fought each other as I lay on the ground.

Finally Aragorn dropped beside me. "They took the little ones, and Diana." I gasped. "Stay still," Aragorn said, trying to get access to the wound, but I kept talking.

"Frodo. Where is Frodo?"

"I let Frodo go," Aragorn answers.

"Then you did what I could not. I tried to take the ring from him." "The ring is beyond our reach now." Aragorn responded.

"Forgive me, I did not see. I have failed you all." I said, my hand gripped in Aragorn's "No, Boromir, you fought bravely." he said and reached to pull out the arrows.

"Leave it." I snapped desperately. "It is over. The world of men will fall and all will come to darkness. My city to ruin." Aragorn shook his head. "I do not know what strength is left, but I will not let the White City fall. Nor our people fail."

"Our people," I repeated as Aragorn nodded. "Our people." Aragorn placed my sword back in my hand and placed it over my chest as I breathed more deeply, gasping for air, clinging to life.

"I would have followed you my brother, my captain, my king and your sister. She'll grow to be a beautiful women, kind and a great queen." A tear slid down Aragorn's cheek and I heard Legolas and Gimli arrive as my eyes stilled and blackness filled my vision.

***

We watched as the boat that carried Boromir fell over the waterfall. Aragorn pulled on Boromir's arm guards. "Hurry! Frodo and Sam have reached the eastern shore!" Legolas called to him, pushing a boat into the water. When he didn't move he turned around "You mean not to follow them."

"Frodo's fate is no longer in our hands."

"Then it has all been for nothing. The fellowship has failed." Gimli said in despair. The two of them came to stand beside Aragorn.

"Not if we hold true to each other." he said putting his arm around each of the two's shoulders. Gimli gripped Aragorn's arm a smile spreading to his face.

"I will not abandon Merry,Pippin, and my sister to torment and death. Not while we have strength left." he turned around sheathing a dagger, "Leave all that can be spared behind. We travel light. Let us hunt some orc."

He turned and began to run the trail the Uruk had left for them. Gimli's laugh followed them and he and Legolas chased him.
