Diana's lip trembled slightly watching as the Orcs and trolls marched upon the fields straight to Gondor. Hearing their booming footsteps, she took a deep breath, calming her nerves.

Her eyes widened as heads started falling from the sky. Around her, soldiers of Gondor lifted their shields, the decapitated heads bouncing off.

Diana watched as trolls started to load their catapults with stones.

"Get the women and children to a safer place." Diana turned to the soldier nearest to her, hearing frightened screams from down below. "Hurry!"

"Abandon your posts!"

The voice of the Steward of Gondor, Denethor II, rang out in the open.

"Flee! Flee for your lives!"

Hearing the order, most of the soldiers started running about.

"No!" Diana tried to stop them. "Don't leave, fight for Gondor."

As quickly as the order was given, the soldiers were back at their posts.

Diana turned around hearing the hooves that clamped on the floor, giving a quiet sigh of relief seeing Gandalf ride up the stairs on Shadowfax.

Gandalf gave a curt nod to the girl who had her weapons ready.

"Send these foul beasts into the abyss." Gandalf ordered the soldiers, a grimace on his face the moment he set eyes on the army of beasts facing them.

At his words, their catapults fired back, sending rubble flying in the air, and squashing some orcs with it.

In retaliation, the orcs fired back the rubble that had landed.

It was like a game. Back and forth. Back and forth. Back and forth.

"We need more rubble."

"Watch out!"

"Oh, come on!" Diana covered her ears the moment the Nazgul were in sight, screeching as they flew in low, knocking soldiers off the wall and destroying the catapults.

"Hold them back!" Gandalf shouted. "Do not give in to fear. Stand to your posts! Fight!"

Diana grit her teeth as she pulled out her bow, firing it at the trolls who were pushing towers. She rolled her eyes at the soldiers from Gondor, who were aiming at the towers.

How stupid were they?

"Not at the towers!" Gandalf was getting slightly frustrated. "Aim for the trolls! Kill the trolls! Bring them down!"

The moment the bridge of the tower fell, Diana traded her bow for her double swords. She swung and slashed, a blur of light, she was like a tornado, bringing down many of her foes.

"Fight them back!" Gandalf yelled. "Peregrin Took!"

"Pippin!" Diana's eyes widened, seeing the small hobbit wandering down, looking at the battle that was going on right in front of his eyes.

"Go back to the Citadel!" Gandalf told him when Pippin looked up at him.

"They'd called us to fight." Pippin muttered as another bridge was lowered.

Gandalf jumped down from his spot, attacking an orc that had spotted Pippin.

"This is no place for a Hobbit." Gandalf panted before smacking an orc down.

Pippin flinched at each and every orc that Gandalf had brought to the ground.

Yet again, another bridge had fallen and more Orcs pooled out.

Diana was in her own world, slashing the orcs that were brave enough to try to kill her, she had barely noticed the orc that was creeping up behind the White Wizard.

"Gandalf!" Diana warned before a proud smile graced her features.

Pippin had stepped forward, thrusting his sword in the Orc that would have killed the old man.

"Guard of the Citadel, indeed." Gandalf praised. "Now, back, up the hill. Quickly. Quick!"

"Gandalf." Diana called as the orcs carried a large log-like tube that had a wolf's head, fire inside.

"Grond. Grond. Grond. Grond."

Gandalf joined Diana at the wall, mouth opened slightly.

"Continue fighting."

Gandalf walked through the path of soldiers, getting to the wall that overlooked the land, Diana at his side.

"Where are Theoden's riders?"

"Will Rohan's army come?"

"Mithrander."

"Gandalf?" Diana placed her hand on his arm, shaking him out of his thoughts.

"Courage is the best defense that you have now." Gandalf answered.

By the time the sky was fully dark, the Orcs had torches lit, were firing boulders with flames, and were still trying to break in with the large wolf's log.

Gandalf and Diana had made their way to the gate which was shaking with each thrust of the wolf's log.

"Steady." Gandalf told the soldiers, who moved slightly back. "Steady. You are soldiers of Gondor. No matter what comes through that gate, you will stand your ground."

The moment he finished talking, three trolls dressed in armor came through the now broken gate.

"Run!"

Gandalf hesitated for a moment. "Volley! Fire!"

The trolls continued rampaging up and the soldiers traded their bows for spears.

Diana blocked an attack from an orc with one sword, driving her other sword into the orc's stomach.

All around her, soldiers were getting beaten to death. She could see Gandalf galloping around on Shadowfax, evading the three trolls.

"Damn it, Gandalf." Diana breathed out as one of the trolls fell. "How did you manage to beat the three trolls sixty years ago?"

"Just focus on the battle, dear." Gandalf rolled his eyes. "That's a story for another time."

Diana grinned, going back to fighting. After all, she had her brother, Legolas, and Gimli to see again.

Many soldiers were getting injured, and Diana could see that other soldiers were helping to carry them to a safer place where they would hopefully be treated to full recovery.

"Retreat!"

The soldiers ran as one, a troll following the group.

"The city is breached!" Gandalf continued shouting orders. "Fall back to the second level! Get the women and children out! Get them out! Retreat!"

The city was being overrun by orcs. It wouldn't be long until death came for them all.

"Fight." Gandalf encouraged. "Fight to the last man! Fight for your lives!"

"Gandalf!" Pippin called out.

Both Gandalf and Diana turned to see Pippin running to him. "Gandalf! Denethor has lost his mind! He's burning Faramir alive!"

"Up! Quickly!"

Gandalf lifted Pippin, placing the hobbit behind him before turning to Diana.

"Diana. You're in charge here."
