To say he was upset was an understatement, Kyle had been fuming from last night ever since the revelation that his father like him was a Hellhound. He got so worked up that he completely forgot about the date he had with Chloe and the thought of her managed to quell his anger for some time but still he wondered if he should confront his mother with this newfound information. Before he could give himself an ultimatum he saw his phone ringing and it was Chloe and answered.
"Hey", he said. "I didn't expect to hear from you so soon".
"You have a lot to learn then Kyle", she responded almost playfully. "It will take more than a simple outburst of anger to turn me away".
"Yeah, I'm really sorry about that", Kyle apologized and upon hearing how sincere he was Chloe sighed.
"You have every right to be angry, confused and lost", she claimed. "Learning about your father that way must be playing on your mind a lot".
"I just don't understand, the way they spoke it's clear they've known about me and my father is someone I know so little about", Kyle told her as he tried to keep his composure. "I guess I wonder if my mother knows anything at all, because if she does how do I react, if she doesn't then what will she think when I eventually tell her?"
"It's a tough spot to be in that's for sure, but I know you'll make the right choice in the end", Chloe assured him and it made him smile.
They spoke a while longer before bidding each other goodbye as he packed his bags for the day. As he came downstairs he noticed the Knights were already here with Abuenazzer and his mom flirting with each other while Toni and Adam sat around clearly wanting to leave as soon as possible. Jason gave him a little look but turned back to his phone while the twins Andrew and Andrea gave him half-hearted smiles.
Just before the three were about to step out as Kyle entered onto his bike while Toni and Adam headed to the bus stop Arlene came out to the side of the house to speak with him.
"Hey, you have a minute?" she asked.
"Sure, what's up?" he responded.
"I was wondering if you wanted to hang out later this weekend, it's been so long since we've had some mother-son bonding time what with work and your training and all", she pondered.
Kyle looked at her and he wondered if he should ask her outright and despite Barghest's growling he blocked it out and gave his answer.
"I mean as long as you won't have to take a rain check, sure why not", he told her.
While she smiled she looked at him quizzically rubbing his head much to his surprise and then the sigh that left her mouth gave away something before she recollected herself
"You look so much like your father sometimes, especially when you're conflicted about something", she mentioned.
"That's a weird comparison, you rarely speak about him yet you always compare our behaviour", Kyle answered finally feeling agitated about the conversation. "I mean what's so bad that you can hardly fathom a conversation about him, if he was a badman just say so I can handle it, disappointment is necessary for life".
Suddenly she hugged his head and though it wasn't unusual Kyle returned the gesture as she looked at him and explained
"It's not that I don't want to, but the mysterious circumstances surrounding your father's disappearance is a bit hard for me to divulge but I promise we will speak about him, it's only right and I owe you that much", Arlene told him and kissed his forehead before wishing him a good day.
While Kyle loved the sentiment there was something extremely sincere about the way she spoke about him.
"Could it be that after all this time she has pent up her emotions and I remind her of him, is she still in love with him?" Kyle wondered.
