Chapter 21 A Christmas Worth Remembering

From what he had heard the turnout was to be a big one, all things considered, almost everyone and their parents would be present, of course, most had the choice to be present but every rugby player was mandatory that they attend with no exceptions. Kyle had no issue with this and was looking forward to the evening especially considering he had Chloe as his date, and his best friends attending.

Naturally, Kyle had Adam and Toni head out on their own to pick up Adam's date Emily as he went to pick up Chloe.

Chloe was putting on the finishing touches to her face, while she wasn't one for overuse of makeup, she did take Mei's advice at least to look like she was trying to impress the guy who would be her date for the night. She smiled to herself considering how surreal it was, and finally took a look at her reflection in the mirror, she was always told that she was very attractive, but it was only now that she had taken the time to truly admire her appearance. She was always slender, though her curves were evident, and the black dress fit her perfectly with the hint of green minted scent that whiffed from her body.

Soon the familiar sound of a certain Dodge Charger made her smile as she teleported downstairs, just before he could knock, she opened the door all smiles.

Kyle was about to speak but the words were stuck in his mouth as he stared at her and for the whole time, she had known him, his eyes spoke a million words that he could never truly say out loud.

"Your beautiful", he stated swooning over her look causing her to blush.

"Why thank you, you're quite handsome yourself", Chloe commented.

She took in his appearance, and he was well put together, it wasn't extravagant, blue dress pants, blue dress shirt, and jacket with a tie, it seemed unnatural considering she remembered he stated his favorite colors to her through text as red, yellow and black even though the two bantered endlessly that black was not a color.

As he opened the vehicle door for her and she stepped inside sitting down she noticed the seats were new and the scent of cherry filled her nose, he sat down in the driver's section, and he smiled at her again making her blush.

"Did he do all this, just for this one night", she wondered.

As the drive continued in silence there were road warnings of ice, Kyle was a good driver and he had specifically chosen the correct tires for the slippery road with the snow falling lightly, however upon driving down this particular stretch and finally coming across a sign of a school but judging by what he saw there was nothing but an abandoned property. 

Chloe then asked him if he could pull over, Stopping the car they both got out and Kyle didn't ask any questions but saw Chloe clutching her shoulders and he heard it, silent sniffles. He knew she was crying and wondered what it could be not sure if any words would help, he went behind her and held her comforting her with his warm body as she melted into his touch.

"I, I'm sorry for you to see me like this, I'm so ashamed", Chloe apologized but Kyle merely shook his head.

"An emotionally traumatic event needs no apology, nor explanation", Kyle told her as he looked into her eyes. "Do you want to talk about it?"

She nodded explaining that back when she was a young girl, her older sister Clara would always tell her to make the most of life and that her brother Grayson while he wasn't well had always been a nagging in her life, but one event that shook her to be as cold as she did when they just met was pivotal changing event. At her middle school, while growing up, she was constantly picked on and bullied, and as pyromancer's powers are tied to their emotions, it became too much. With a mighty explosion of her latent abilities, she killed 32 kids, and her two teachers. The cause of the explosion was never found, and some blamed her, even today which was why she moved from one school to another but the pain, and guilt followed her daily.
