After failing the three most important exams that could make or break life, Adira sat by the blue window of her room lost in her own thoughts, reflecting on how it all started.
Life was going good till the time Adira hasn't hit high school. She wasn't aware that landing in high school would mean loosing her best friend, sitting with a bunch of 40 strangers and as an add on would also have to make new choices that will rule the rest of her life.
Being a fun loving, happy-go-lucky person, she never took life seriously. She always went with the flow. Engineering and Medical was never on her charts and getting indulged with theory or history was a total no no. Which left her with just one option, that is, accounting.
Being a bright student since age 5 and a favourite of every teacher, she had some responsibility on her shoulders to fulfil. Since, she didn't go for the toughest streams termed as medical and engineering, she had to choose the toughest subjects in her stream and hence she opted for all mathematical and business related subjects.
But she didn't new that a thirty minute chance encounter with the schools' new art teacher could change her life. And this is how it all started ...
Filled with excitement, Adira went straight home post school and announced, 'I want to be an artist'. Tiara, one of her elder sisters mocked, do you want to be one at this very second or do you wanna wait for a few years to actually grasp the skill to be one. Adira glared in her direction and Tiara realised that it's her clue to shift back her attention to the TV show she was watching. On contrary, her eldest sister Jenny could hear the enthusiasm in her voice and decided to support her.
Adira's family wasn't having their best time financially. If this was the case a couple of years ago, her parents must have sent her for the best art classes in the town. But the situation is different now. It is pretty hard for them to afford even the high school tution expenses now. But Jenny decided to finance her art education so that Adira can land up in the best design school and can fulfil her dreams. That was the plan.
But do things happen as planned? No, atleast not in Adira's life.
Though she was following the plan, attending school till 1 in noon and then travelling for one hour thirty minutes on alternate days to attend a 2 hour art class and she thought she is giving her best (which wasn't true).
2 years of coaching couldn't do much and here she is sitting beside her window feeling like the biggest looser. Yup, she ended up losing in all the three exams that she had been preparing for the past two years. Her mind was blank and eyes could see only darkness even in the bright sunlight that had been kissing her body since long.
Kiddo I am thirsty, can you get me some water? Kiddo, there is no one at home, can you get me a glass of water? Adira.. Adiii... she heard her granny calling out for her. Realising her sweaty state, she stood up with a jerk to head towards the kitchen, but her mind was filled with the thoughts of her failure. She couldn't forget the sadness that wiped her fathers' face yesterday when she broke the news that she will have to skip an entire year as she couldn't make into any of the art schools she applied for. She had never seen her father so upset before. Even though the family's financial front wasn't going quite well, this news seemed to have hurt him the most. This just breaks her heart even more.
Returning to the room with a glass of water, she found her phone ringing. It was her dad who called up to assure that she is fine and told her that they will be back home in an hour. Trying to push back the tears falling through her eyes, she did the little chit chat and then broke down hitting the end call button. She couldn't take it anymore. She hadn't felt so helpless in her entire life. Thinking that only luck could save her this time, all she was hoping was for some miracle to happen.
Ignoring the devastated state she was in, she decided to pick up her phone to run a search once again in case any art school is still accepting applications. The sadness that she found in her father's eyes was killing her.
It seems like she hadn't ran out of all the luck that could probably exist on this planet. To her surprise, there's a university which is still accepting applications and last day to apply is today. Woah, she could sense that her fathers' prayers have been listened to. No way in hell that she is going to lose this opportunity.
The university was ranked number 8 in the country for art education and she wasn't expecting the competition to be any easier. All she wanted was just to get in somehow.
This time she gave her best shot and was waiting for the results while keeping her fingers crossed. She can't lose the smile that this small ray of hope had brought on her father's face.
And as luck would have it, it didn't ditch her this time and she got into the university, not knowing what awaits her ...
