The monthly exchange did not end as wished.
The advisors told the ruling heads that the suspension of exchange would do them more harm than the humans. The alpha considered the point.
Nevertheless, he listed the grievances of his pack to the rangers hoping they would stand in solidary with them and do something about the matter.
The females were gathered in the common room.
They were sorting the vegetables, fruits, and meat, and preparing them for preservation.
But an air of fear and remorse prevailed over the ongoing conversation.
"'why us?' is all ever think!"
"The goddess has put it on us. We have somehow earned her wrath!"
"Did someone sin? Oh, goddess! Please forgive me if it was through me."
"What could be a greater sin than what the abomination had done? Yet his pack did not receive such a fate."
Scarlett could not take it anymore so she left and strolled down to the stream.
The foul smell from the bitumen factory was suspended in the air. She sighed.
The alpha and the elders did not seem to be very firm about their decision to stop bartering as a measure of protest.
Scarlett's mind traveled back to the conservation at the common room.
She imagined the amount of courage it had taken the abomination to defy his parents, his alpha, and his kind to leave it all behind and settle with the humans.
Maybe she still had an option.
The alpha paced in his lodging, trying to find a friendly solution.
His son observed him and let out a sigh. Joshua weighed his decision again. They would have his brother, who was more eligible he thought.
If he wanted out then he had to do it.
