"Are you lost?" Lucas asked Scarlett.
"I...umm...I..." she stuttered. Letty took in a deep breath and tried to compose herself. "I want to meet the mayor."
Both the boys scanned her.
Lucas sighed softly and said, "All government offices are closed by 5 p.m." he checked his watch and continued "it's four-thirty already. You need to take a bus from here and I don't think you will reach there before five."
Scarlett listened.
What should she do? Scarlett wondered.
She cannot return. Her group should have already found out about her absence and that would surely be reported. If she returned there was no coming back. She scanned the horizon over the buildings.
But another question popped up in her head, should Lucas Black be trusted?
"The mayor?" Joshua interrogated.
"Regarding the problem," Scarlett answered.
"And you think it will be all solved. He will stand up in our favor!"
"What's the harm in trying?!"
"Guys calm down." Lucas intervened and asked "Scarlett, do you want to return home?"
A jolt of electricity passed through upon hearing her name being called by him. She brushed off the feelings immediately and answered "I can't."
"So what have you decided to do?"
"I will wait somewhere here till tomorrow, meet him and then go home."
Lucas knew very well that she had nowhere to be. He politely persuaded her to come with Joshua and him.
Scarlett as obvious was reluctant at first but eventually, she agreed.
