Shivers ran down her spine. She never expected to meet someone that infamous but there she was standing in front of Lucas Black.

The Lucas Black.

The shame, the abomination of the whole werewolf community.

The way stories spun around him were astounding.

She had always expected him to be a burly man with dark circles under his eyes, a smug expression, short and stout fingers in short the definition of homicide.

The scenario in front of her was telling a different story.

He looked so much like them, so much... normal.

He was about to withdraw his hand when Scarlett woke up from whatever daze she was in.

She shook his hand with a sense of insecurity. She was completely in awe of him, of his eyes, of his touch.

The world seemed to stop at that particular moment. She did not want to break eye contact but his stare was so intense, almost confused, that she was bound to do so.

She almost missed the softness in his eyes.

Suddenly she felt an emptiness. She felt so hollow that it is difficult to recover from the shock.

Scarlett was numb, her breathing had fastened, and shock and terror were floating in her eyes. She moved back and stood beside Joshua.

Lucas averted his gaze, bit his lower lip, and shoved his hands in his pant pockets. His shadow loomed over her.

Joshua found the exchange immensely strange and awkward but did not comment.
