It was raining. The tiny drops of water on the windowpane glistened under the street light. Joshua was working on the book. Scarlett decided to cook a meal as there was no sign of Lucas.

The episode in the afternoon had moved Scarlett, she was still conflicted about what was right and what was wrong. What would she have done if she was in his shoes? Move away or try harder?

The sound of the front door startled Scarlett. She composed herself and stirred the soup which was about to spill.

"Hey, Joe! It seems you are going to complete this book by tomorrow." Lucas grinned.

"Hope so," Joshua replied and forced a smile. Lucas didn't miss the gloomy mood and puffy eyes of Joshua but he didn't inquire much. He looked around the room but did not find Scarlett.

"Umm, where's Scarlett?" Lucas asked.

"She is in the kitchen," Joshua answered.

Lucas was about to enter the kitchen when Scarlett came out with a steaming bowl of soup.

"I e-mailed the letter to the mayor and even sent a hard copy to his P.A. I think the meeting will be set up in a few days." He informed Scarlett. "Thank you so much but I could have done it myself" Scarlett answered, not liking the fact that Lucas was trying to get involved in it.

A few days would be too much stay for Scarlett.

A disturbing thought popped up in her head, 'Was Lucas trying to delay her return?'.

She didn't want to be his guest in the first place and the city was giving her a headache. Also, the fact that Lucas and she could have a predestined bond was scaring her even more. She was conflicted about what to do.

Scarlett set the plates and brought the rest dishes she had prepared.

If she returned, she doubted her parents would allow her to come back and the alpha would surely be questioning her about Joshua. She realized a sigh. Everything was so frustrating, it made her headache. Scarlett just wanted the meeting to be set up as soon as possible.

After dinner, the guys offered to do the dishes so Scarlett took a bath to clear her head. She weighed the situation and decided that staying at Lucas's would be a better option than heading back home and she promised herself that she wouldn't fall into any kind of snare that Lucas was setting out for her.

When she walked into the dining room, she found Lucas cleaning the floor, most of the lights were off and Joshua was nowhere in sight. She looked back to find the door to Lucas' room was locked, surely Joe had retired to bed Scarlett thought.

Lucas didn't notice her standing in the corridor, he wordlessly carried out his chore.

Scarlett took the moment to observe Lucas. The way his hair fell over his forehead, how his muscles flexed when he moved, and the subtle clenching of the jaw occasionally. She admitted to herself that he was attractive but his past and his actions were very repulsive to her.

Under that pretty skin, what a heinous soul he hid and her heart sank at the fact that her soul was a part of it too. Was she that hideous a creature that she was mated to Lucas Black? The whole of her body repulsed at the thought, he made her feel bad about herself, and the aversion she harbored in her heart grew stronger.

"You have something to say?" Scarlett was startled at the voice. She was brought back to reality.

"No, actually...good night." She managed to say and turned back.

"Scarlett, what's up with Joe?" Lucas voiced his concern. Letty turned back and released a sigh. Should she tell him? Surely he already knew but it was not her place to tell.

"He... he is a bit disturbed," Scarlett said. Lucas picked up the trash and threw it in the can. He wiped the few drops of sweat that had formed. Scarlett looked at him expecting an answer but he just nodded and let the matter go.

Instead, he questioned, "So you will be staying here till the meeting."

"Yeah, if that's okay with you." Scarlett shrugged.

She was damn sure he would have no issues.
