Scarlett admired the way her father garnished his love for her mother. That was the way mates were supposed to be.

Mates were believed to share the same soul, just two different bodies. Once you gain the maturity that is you transform, you become eligible to be mated.

Predestined mates existed but the strength of the bond had weakened over the ages. And this evolvement provided flexibility in choosing your life partner.

Scarlett had transformed at an age of fifteen. She was still waiting to choose or be chosen.

"And here are your pancakes" her father smiled at her.

"Letty eat them fast or else you would be late! Aren't you excited?" little Ryan, her brother, jumped up and down.

"You'd get to see so many things. I wish I could grow up faster" he giggled.

"To grow up into a good boy you need to finish your breakfast." their mother chided. And the rant went on.

Scarlett's hands were sweaty and as cold as ice. She did not have any appetite. She watched her family with guilt-filled eyes. Maybe nothing would remain the same after what she was about to do.

Mr. Ashford kissed the forehead of his kids and pecked his wife a warm goodbye. Scarlett weakly smiled.

She reminded herself that she was doing it for them.

After a long and difficult goodbye, she picked her bag and left to join the group at school.

Hmm, mates...Do you think Scarlett and Joshua can be a good pair?
