Perched on the windowsill of a corridor, I watched as the rain pattered gently against the window, playing a soft melody of agony. I could never comprehend how some people hated the rain. After all, the droplets travelled all this way to give the world tiny kisses of the ocean, how could someone be so ungrateful?
The rain made me feel. Perhaps it was not the happiest of feelings, nevertheless, it was better than the void of any emotion. When I asked my mother, she had simply explained that just like the moon, we must go through phases of emptiness to feel full again. I guess I was simply not through all the phases. I had to be patient.
But patience was a virtue I did not possess.
Fuck whoever decided that patience was a virtue.
"Hey! What are you doing here looking all sad and miserable?" A familiar chirpy voice spoke, and I jumped up in surprise. I genuine smile appeared on my face once I realised it was Sammy with his unruly hair sticking out in different places, blinking at me with those eyes that held so much positivity that I was afraid it would pass onto me.
"I like the rain."
"Said every miserable person ever." He snorted. "Come on, breakfast started already and I am starving." He said while squinting his eyes and rubbing his tummy as if to emphasize his point and with a roll of my eyes, I jumped down from the windowsill and walked over to the blonde, my mood brightening significantly.
Only then I noticed the single rose he was holding in his hand. "Who is the rose for?" I asked, not even trying to hide my amusement when he flushed red and avoided my eyes.
"Um, it's for Linda Collins, you know, for Slughorn's party?" His cheeks reddened even more.
I patted him on the back with a chuckle. "Well, good luck, Hufflepuff."
"Thanks." He replied with a small smile before turning to face me fully. "What about you? Hoping for anyone particular to ask you?" He asked in a teasing tone, and I focused my gaze on the stone walls in front of me as my mind immediately drifted to a platinum blonde-haired boy and I felt my cheeks heating up.
"Nope."
"Liar."
"Fine, maybe."
"Still a liar."
"Abraxas Malfoy!" I caved in. My exclamation caused some students in the hallway to look at us curiously, and I glared at them. "What are you looking at?" I snapped with a sneer, and they instantly glanced away. I glowered at the sight of Sammy chuckling with amusement and flicked him on the head so he would stop. Just as I predicted, his laughter was cut short as he moved his hand to rub the spot I had hit with a scowl. "Fuck off, Hufflepuff."
