Her screams echoed through the halls. We needed the help of some Elves because what needed to be done was beyond our knowledge of medicine. It took them at least two days to get here but they said she would be okay.

I sat on my throne and Balin was with me. "She'll be okay Thorin."

My jaw clenched together every time she screamed. "They're breaking her bones."

"So they will heal back properly." Balin took a step forward. Her screams had stopped for some time and then we saw Lord Elrond and his people walking over to us.

I immediately stood up and walk over. "Will she be okay."

"She'll be fine." Lord Elrond leaned over to one of his and they whispered something in his ear. He looked at Balin and back at me reassuringly. "She'll be in pain for a bit but it shouldn't take her long to heal. What was she doing out in the Iron Hills?"

"Kili said she saw an orc the other night and went to go check it out," Balin responded.

Lord Elrond responded as if he wasn't surprised. "Her curiosity has always been a bit of an issue." Everyone went silent for a bit. "Anyway, we should be getting back to Rivendell." I and Balin watched as Elrond and his kin walked out of Erebor. Once they left I quickly headed to her sleeping quarters. Balin wasn't too far behind me.

Once we got there my jaw clenched at the sight. Most of her body is covered in bandages. They had to bind her chest so they could wrap her whole ribcage. Her right hand left forearm, and left leg was wrapped. A she-dwarf from the hospital wing in Erebor was dabbing a cold rag on her face and wherever her body wasn't covered in bandages (which wasn't much).

When the she-dwarf noticed me and Balin she got up and left. Leaving the bowl and rag next to the left of her bed. We noticed her eyes opening.

{Nex's POV}

My eyes opened and I saw Balin and Thorin standing at my doorway. Balin put his hand on Thorin's shoulder and looked at him. They both nodded at each other and Balin walked off.

"How are you feeling?" Thorin asked as he walked over. He sat down in the chair next to my bed.

"Never better." He laughed at my humor. I tried laughing too but it only made me hurt. I groaned at the pain. Thorin grabbed my hand so I could squeeze it. I was squeezing his hand so hard that it started to slightly hurt him.

"sorry." I loosened my grip.

"No worries." He changed the way he was holding my hand so our fingers were intertwined. "It hurts less like this."

He used his other hand to dip the rag in the cold water and he started to place it in different places around my face.

Once most of the pain went away I spoke. "Nex."

Thorin looked at me dumbfounded. "What?"

"That's my name." I glanced at him and back at the wall.

Before he could speak we saw Ori, Nori, Kili, Fili, Dori, Dwalin, Oin, Gloin, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, and Balin walk up to the door. They all saw me holding Thorin's hand and thought something else of it. "Awwww."

"I swear if I could get my bow I would- AH!" I tried sitting up but I forgot most of my ribs were broken. I fell back down on the bed screaming and once again I started squeezing Thorin's hand.

"Alright lads, let's go," Balin said as he stepped in front of the group and closed the doors to my room.

Finally the pain away once again.

{Thorin's POV}

"What time of day is it?" Nex asked sounding tired.

"Maybe a little after dusk." I let go of her hand and headed to leave. Once I got to the doors I stopped. "You should get some rest. You're very weak."

"wait," Nex responded just as I opened one of the doors to leave. I turned my toward her, but didn't look. "could you stay." I turned my head away for a second.

As I turned away from the door, I pushed it to shut. When I got back over to her I moved the chair closer to her bed so I could prop my feet upon it. I wasn't focused on her that whole so when I did shift my focus, she was already asleep.

My eyes were fixed on the doors and then they moved to her hand. I hesitated at first but I took it just in case. I couldn't sleep most of the night but eventually, I did.
