As we drove into the city, I could see a school, the same one we were about to break into.
"Why again are we breaking into school?" I asked.
"This is an all-boys academy. The students live here, and they're all asleep," Sandy explained.
"You sure do like kidnapping small children, don't you?" I asked.
"It's in my job description,"
"What kind of messed up boss do you have?!"
"A very reasonable one,"
"You mean delusional?"
Sandy preceded by slapping me, then gave me another one of her famous death glares.
"You wanna talk to your care-talker like that?" Sandy slapped me again.
"And what if I do?" I asked, trying to sound confident, even though I felt like she was gonna kill me.
"I'll leave you here,"
"And why is that bad?"
"You are currently trespassing. You'll be sent to prison. Not only that, but that Itsumade that attacked us, well it's got friends, (unlike you) that want to kill you too,"
"Great, just great... still stuck with a kidnapper..."
"You've got one more chance,"
"Ok... I'll shut up now..."
As we walked into the dark school, Sandy was just walking in plain sight. At least Latona and I were trying to stay hidden. We wandered into the dorm wing of the school.
¨Do you even know where we are going¨ I said.
"Floor 3, second hallway on the right. Room 476, one is in the bathroom, the other in bed," Sandy said.
"Stalker alert!" Latona said.
"And for a while, I thought you were the smart one," Sandy said.
"Sorry..."
"You better be"
"How do you even know all this?" I asked.
"I have my ways," Sandy said.
"That doesn't help,"
"You're no help. Now, less chit-chat and more walking. We've got people to grab and monsters closing in on us"
"You scare me," Latona said.
"Good," Sandy said, slightly pleased. Only slightly.A LITTLE BIT LATER...
As we walked down the second hallway to the right on the third floor, we approached Room 476. A single light was on, and the door was wide open.
" Let's go in. We still need..." Sandy began to speak but was interrupted by a high pitched scream. I ran into the room and jumped onto the small monster attacking a boy. I punched it once, and the monster turned into a cloud of glitter.
"You okay?" I asked the boy.
"I'm not sure if I'm dead, or if I'm seeing things.." he said.
"You're not seeing things," I reassured him.
"So I'm dead?"
"No,"
"You confuse me,"
"How?"
"Am I dead, or seeing things?"
"Neither!"
"Why didn't you just say that?"
I lead the boy and the other kid who was in the dorm, out to Sandy and Latona.
"So, what was that scream?" Latona asked me. I held out my hands.
"It's just a pile of glitter now..." I laughed.
"How did you do it?" Sandy asked, seeming much more curious than usual.
"What do you mean?"
"How did you defeat the monster?"
"I beat it up,"
"But how"?
"Now you're being the stupid one!"
"Shut up,"
"Sorry..."
"Now, answer my question!"
"I punched it,"
"That's it? How big was it?"
I moved my hand towards the floor, only a foot off the ground, to show the monster's size.
"What did it look like?" Sandy asked.
"Like a giant spider," I said.
"I hate spiders..."
"You hate everything,"
"Kid, if you don't shut up, I'm gonna smack you!" Sandy was yelling now.
"Sorry..." I apologized.
Sandy then proceeded to grab the two boys by the arm and dragged them down the hallway while threatening them to keep quiet. Latona and I followed. It was too late to go home now, so we might as well do what she says.
As we sat in the car, Sandy was trying to be a bit nicer and let us talk.
"So, who are you two?" I asked.
"I'm Travis," said the boy that I had saved from the spider.
"I'm Mark..." the other boy said shyly.
"Well, I'm Isabelle. The girl next to me is Latona, and the one driving is Sandy!" I greeted them
"Welcome to the Hostage Club," Latona teased. Now Sandy was mad again.
"Latona, if you don't shut up, I'll drop you off right here and I'll let the monsters kill you," she snapped.
"S...sorry..."
While we were driving along the same dusty road we passed where Sandy beat up the chicken, we could see the pile of ash that it had turned into. As it came into sight, Sandy sped up.
"Geez! Slow down!" Mark shouted.
"If I don't that monster might reform and go after you guys again!" Sandy yelled back.
"Again?" Mark was confused.
"That pile of ash used to be a giant, oversized, fire-breathing chicken. Sandy beat it up and it turned into ash," I explained.
"I'm still confused..." Travis said.
"You're always confused, Travis," Mark said.
Travis frowned.
"You're mean," he said.
After that, the rest of the long and miserable car ride was completely quiet. No one talked.
