Mark Jumps off a Cliff

Today, we had a brand new camp activity. Rock climbing! I've been rock climbing before, so I already knew what I was doing. Well, at least that's what I thought...
"Alright campers, are you ready for rock climbing?" Siv asked.
The campers cheered.
Siv lead us to a cliff that was on the campgrounds. It's huge, but I've never seen it before... and I've been to every part of the camp in the last week... How did I miss that?
When we reached the bottom of the cliff, Siv made us climb, without any of the safety gear. And for a camp that's called 'Camp Safety', that didn't make any sense.
"Where's the safety gear?" I asked.
"This is another game to help campers to get claimed. You're two friends in Cabin 41 haven't been claimed yet," Siv explained.
I guess that makes sense. Maybe Mark and Travis would get claimed today...
As we climbed to the top of the cliff, a few campers fell off. Luckily, some of the campers, the healers, were waiting at the bottom to heal them.
But when we got to the top, Siv said something that I thought I'd never heard her say.
"Alright, Mark! Travis! Tina! Come to the edge of the cliff!" she yelled.
I watched as Mark and Travis left my side to walk to Siv. Siv put her hand of Tina's back and shoved her off the cliff.
"TINA!" one of the campers screamed.
"Don't worry, she's fine," Siv said.
The girl ran to the edge of the cliff to see her friend lying on the ground, laughing.
Travis was next. He too fell to the ground. He wasn't hurt.
Then, Mark didn't even wait for Siv to push him. He ran up to the very edge, and jumped! I expected him to fall and hit the ground too, but he didn't. He sat, floating halfway down. He was flying!
"Congratulations, Mark! You have been claimed!" Siv cheered.
"By who?" Mark yelled.
"Xenon! God of air!"
"Cool,"
Mark was floating across the face of the cliff. He was happy. Very happy. I was happy for him too. So was Latona, who was sitting on the ground, tending to Tina's wounds. So was Travis, who was also being healed by Latona.
Today was a good day. But I was still being haunted by that dream. I was scared. I cared too much about my friends to let them be killed by some stupid chicken.

THE NEXT DAY
It was early the next morning when Ivy woke me up. She was worried. Her hands were shaking and her voice was trembling.
"What's wrong?" I asked her.
"I'll show you..." she said.
Ivy lead me out to the edges of the camp. Everyone was gathering around a single spot, weapons in hand. Everyone was scared, even Siv.
"There's too many monsters out there..." Siv was trying to convince a camper to stay put.
"I can take them!" the camper said and shoved passed Siv. Siv grabbed his arm and yelled at him not to leave the camp. He didn't listen. I watched as the camper, who only looked to be 12 years old, was mauled to death by a monster. Fear washed over the campers, causing several of them to faint. Latona rushed to the fallen campers, along with a few other girls, to heal them.
"This is why you guys need to listen to me. Disobeying can get you killed in this world..." she said. This moment... reminded me of Sandy.
I couldn't stay there any longer. I walked off, not even looking back at Ivy. I wanted to getaway.
As I walked, I passed the cabins and went right in the woods. It was quiet there. I fell to my knees and cried. This was too much for me to handle. Why didn't Sandy follow us into the camp? Why didn't she fight back? Why did she even bother to save us in the first place? There were many things I wanted to know. And I intended to get answers.
