When the two boys had calmed down, we all sat down at the table.
"Now, allow me to properly introduce myself. My name is Cole Adkins, son of Acumen, the god of wisdom," the boy said. "And the two boys you saw earlier are Tommy and Stevie. They don't get along very well even though they're cousins,"
"My name is Isabelle. I'm a daughter of Ivory," I said.
"I'm Mark, son of Xenon," Mark said.
"I am Latona, daughter of Cheyla,"
"And what about you?" Cole asked, pointed at Travis.
"This is Travis! His father is Saffron," Latona spoke for Travis.
"Does he speak?"
"Ya..." Travis mumbled.
"Oh,"
Awkward silence.
"So... what brings you here?" Cole asked.
"Prophecy..." Travis said.
"What's the prophecy?"
"Don't know..." Latona shrugged.
"I have no clue..." Mark sighed.
"You guys have a terrible memory. Four demigods must follow the East Winds. One of air, magic, summer, and life. They shall swim an ocean of pain. And travel the fields of monsters, And into a land of cold. With the wise and smart as aid, they shall retrieve a ring of gold. All on a day of length, it shall begin." I said. Somehow I was able to resight the entire prophecy without even thinking.
"How?" Latona asked me.
"Why not?" I said back.
"When did you find out about the prophecy?" Cole asked.
"About a week ago," I told him.
"You have quite an amazing memory!"
"It's not usually like that. I just made a point to remember it..."
"Interesting..."
"How?"
"Nothing you would understand,"
"You make it sound like I'm stupid,"
"Can you stop arguing?" Latona interrupted.
"Wise choice, healer," Cole sighed.
"I have a name,"
"I know,"
"Then use it!"
"Now will you two stop fighting?" I asked.
"Fine," Latona said, refusing to look at Cole.
The rest of the day was quiet. Latona, Mark, Travis, and I headed to an empty cabin for the night. When we got inside, we realized how unkempt this place was. The cabin was covered in dirt and leaves. The pathway into the camp was muddy. The table we sat at was cracking and falling apart. And then the beds... I don't wanna talk about it...THE NEXT DAY...
When I woke up, it was pouring rain. The roof of the cabin was dripping, and we were all sleeping in puddles of dirty rainwater. Guessing by the look of the kitchen I got the other day, I wasn't really feeling up to eating anything. Mark, on the other hand, had come much more prepared. He pulled a bag of granola bars out of his backpack.
"I got breakfast!" he cheered and threw us each a bar.
"Thanks!" I said. My appetite was back!
After we ate, we went outside. The rain had just stopped, so everything was wet. Just by walking across the grass, Travis had fallen over many times. His clumsiness reminded me of Ivy when she first wakes up.
We found Cole, Stevie, and Tommy in the moldy kitchen trying to make... something... It smelled horrendous.
"Oh, you're awake. Would you like some eggs?" Cole asked, holding out a pan of burned eggs (eggshells included).
"I think we'll pass..." Latona said, then turned to me and whispered. "I don't think that's very good for our health..."
I nodded in agreement.
After we watched them eat those eggs, we started to talk about the quest.
"So, we've got to find a ring of gold. Know anything about that?" I asked.
"Not sure. I'd have to look in my library..." Cole said.
"Library?" Latona looked at me in confusion. None of us saw a library in the camp.
Cole led us to his cabin. I felt like I was in the same situation back at Siv's cabin. Cole moved his makeshift bed to reveal a trap door.
"It's in here," he said as he shoved us down the ladder. You'd think the kid of the god of wisdom would be a bit smarter...
The small room under the cabin was dark and smelly. To be honest, it smelled like mold and cigarettes. Very unpleasant.
"Don't mind the smell. It's from our last visitor," Cole said.
"And who would that be?" I asked. And as soon as the words came out of my mouth, I knew I'd regret it.
"One of our more honored guests. He comes in every so often,"
"Is he like a celebrity?"
"In a way,"
"What does that mean?"
"His name is Clay, the god of death,"
"Wait what?" Latona asked, wiping her head around.
"That's unsettling..."
"Not really. He's not as mean as people make him seem in the stories,"
"That's not what I meant..."
"What did you mean then?"
"It's hard it explains,"
I looked over to Latona, who seemed hesitant to walk any farther into the room. Judging from the stories I'd heard, Clay was Chayla's twin sister and sworn rival. That would mean that the god of death was my best friend's uncle. That made things even worse. Latona's weird uncle was here. Unsettling... Very unsettling...
"Are you okay?" I asked my friend.
"I'm not sure. This place... Just doesn't seem right" she whispered to me.
"Don't worry. You'll be okay," Travis said. He wrapped his arm around Latona and smiled. "I won't let that guy get you,"
"Thanks, Travis," Latona smiled back.
I noticed Mark walking towards me. I grabbed his arm as he tried to mock Travis.
"You dare touch me, and I smack you into tomorrow,"
Mark took his hand back and walked away slowly. I then walked to Travis, who still had his arm around my friend.
"You hurt her, I kill you. Most gruesome death you can imagine,"
"Did you say something?" Latona asked.
I shook my head and smiled. When Latona looked away, I gave Travis my best Sandy-style death glare.
"Can we leave now?" Travis asked Cole nervously.
"No, we have things to do," Cole said.
"Like what?" I asked, not able to take my eyes off the mysteriously muddy walls.
"We need to summon Clay,"
"No. No. NO NO NO NO!" Latona yelled as she climbed up the ladder and out of the room. Travis sprinted after her.
"Looks like it's just us now!" Mark said.
"Nope. Ew. Go away," I said, pushing him back.
"What's going on down here?" I heard a voice from the door.
"Nothing to concern you, Stevie, Go finish your homework,"
"But it's filled with odd numbers!" Stevie yelled back.
"I DON'T CARE!" Cole yelled, scaring Stevie off. "Now, where were we..."
"You wanted to summon a death god," Mark sighed.
"Oh, right,"
"Why again do you want to do that?" I asked.
"For your quest, obviously!"
"I'm not so sure we should..."
"To late!" Cole said as he scattered small bits of coal across the rocky floor. Nothing happened. Then Cole started chanting something. It wasn't in the usual japanese I was able to translate. This time, it was something different. I couldn't tell.
"Veni nobis. Princeps qui sub terra! Ad eum locum nativitatis tuae! Nos receperint vos? Lutum!" he yelled.
The room filled with a dark, cold mist. I could already tell why Latona didn't want to be here. Within seconds, there was a man standing in front of us.
