Back To Strangers

"Our society is ruled by money. You can't expect anyone even the authorities to honor their credibility and integrity. They are willing to lick your shoes if you are a cruel puissant one."

That statement left a remark in my head. Mr. Scott at the other end of the table remain compose as he shower us his own beliefs about society.

"She wasted a kill. That boy was not even a friend of the target," Mr. Morgage scorned.

I rolled my eyes at him. Bumaling ako kay Jinx na tuwid ang upo at matigas ang ekspresyon. Patungkol sa kaso niya ang usapan ngayon at minabuti na lang niyang manahimik dahil alam niya ang pagkakamali.

"Her case is clear now. The cops obliged to me," Mr. Scott replied.

The truth about society is now finally revealed. People says no one is above law when in fact it's just a bluff. Maybe no one really is above law. People can't surpass the law. However, money can.

"No more impulsive move this time. You all need to work smart!" Mr. Morgage said.

The tension in this conference room grows.

"Robert Spencer is still in the country and there will be an auction party that he's about to attend. There's no assurance of his attendance yet but we'll check it out," Mr. Scott informed.

Tinitigan ko ang mga daliri kong naglalaro sa ibabaw ng lamesa. My nails wasn't fresh from manicure. I forgot the last time I putted colors on them. Now, they grew longer yet healthy looking.

"Senator Allanes will be there too. He recently told us that he has been receiving multiple death threats. I conclude that Spencer's group are involve. The senator is probably their target now," Mr. Desilva said.

"No wonder. The presidential election will be next year and Allanes have plans to run."

"We are out of it."

"What are you talking about, Mr. Scott? Senator Allanes is no stranger to us. If we fail to protect him, we'll lose our government alliance," Mr. Desilva clarified.

Inangat ko ang tingin kay Mr. Scott na nasa kabisera. He's fiercely looking down at the table. Probably having deep thoughts.

"We will send Custodio in the auction party. He will keep an eye on Spencer and Allanes there," Mr. Desilva replied.

Their conversation continues and I feel bored sitting on here without anything to say. They're talking far from our main topic. Ilang minuto din ang itinagal ng usaping iyon at kung hindi pa ako tinawag, baka nakatulog na ako sa kinauupuan.

"How's your mission going, Ms. Steppingstone?" Mr. Desilva asked.

I straightened my back and looked at him in a bored expression.

"Going fine," I answered, uninterested.

He sighed. "How about you, Ms. Carnelian? Any details?"

Alice cleared her throat first before answering. "I found out that Robert Spencer is divorced with Veniva Herism. They were separated 18 years ago and Veniva got away with right amount of shares from his assets," she replied.

Nagpantig ang tainga ko sa narinig. Hiwalay si Veniva Herism kay Robert Spencer? Ibig sabihin hindi ako nagkamali. Totoong Spencer si Calter!

"She also holds an asset from her ex-husband's organization. Aside from that, she owns a big private school which became her main source of financial stability," Mr. Desilva added.

Ang Herism Academy. Veniva Herism is the principal because she manages the school.

"That is why we must murder them while their assets are in good condition. The grand auction party will be attended by many powerful business tycoons. We need Custodio there to be our eyes." The greediness in Mr. Morgage's tone was noticeable.
