Tenko took a deep, calming breath, and stepped off the bus. The stadium they had been taken to was a large one; it could easily fit the school's main building many times over. And that was just what Tenko could see. Everywhere he looked there were students and their teachers. Over there was Ketsubetsu, and over there was Shiketsu, just to name a couple.
"C'mon Tenko." Touya called out for him, "That license isn't gonna earn itself!"
Huffing a laugh in response, Tenko countered his friend. "I could say the same to you, Mr. I-Can't-Leave-The-House-Until-My-Hair-Is-Perfect. I mean really, it's just going to get messed up anyway."
Touya's shoulder bumped into his in a friendly gesture. "Not if I take extra care. And you're just jealous you can't get locks like these," He gestured to his loose plait, "With that greasy hair of yours."
"It's not that greasy! I use special shampoo!"
"Alright," Started Aizawa from the front of the group, "Here's how this is going to go. In a minute you're going to go get changed into your hero costumes, and then you're going to go to the room at the end of the hall. If you get lost you're expelled - there are signs. You'll get instructions for the exam there. Unlike the exam for the full hero license, the provisional license doesn't have a written portion. If you fail the first section, there are signs to the seating area. Come find me after you've changed back into your uniform; I'll meet the rest of you outside after the exam is finished. Now get going."
A round of 'Yes, sensei's sounded, and Tenko went along with the crowd in the direction of the changing rooms. He was still nervous, but doing something helped distract him.
His costume had been painstakingly designed by the whole family. Having a pro-hero father and a hero fanatic brother had its perks when designing a costume. He had a visor that allowed him to switch between infrared vision and regular vision, and it also showed the vitals of anyone in view. His father had had it specially made for him, like with the rest of his costume. Needing the use of his hands in rescue situations, Tenko included retractable gloves to his costume. They usually covered his pinkie and ring finger, but could withdraw the fingers to his knuckles. He had boots that supported his ankles for walking around on unstable footing, and protective and simple clothing that covered him from neck to boot to wrist.
Tenko's costume design was reflected, at least in part, by his friend. Touya's costume had a similar visor and boots (his visor showed his own stats as well as a simplified version of others'), but the fire wielder also had a jacket with sleeves that went just past his elbows, and came down to his knees. The collar was popped up, too. Their colours were even similar; pale grey and white with bits of black, as well as accents of different shades of blue. Touya's was brighter, close in colour to his fire, and Tenko's were more subdued, similar to his hair. His also had bits of red.
The two of them walked out and down the hall to the presentation room (and sensei was right - the signs were obvious). The room slowly filled up, but it wasn't long before the lights dimmed and a very tired man cleared his throat.
"Welcome to the provisional license exam. There will be two events, and only those who pass the first event and who have a passable score in the second will be eligible for a license," The screen behind the man flashed to life, "The first event is that all of you will be split into four groups and will wear a colour band that corresponds to your team. Your objective is to take the bands of the other teams, and add them to your body. You're not out if you loose all bands, but each one will correspond to a point each, but you get a bonus if you keep your original band the whole time."
