It was late one night, and Izuku was leaping over the roofs on his way back from his patrol. It was good to be back out and doing things, even if the way he was doing it was... less than legal. But he was still helping!
He was coming up to the edge of another roof when, in the alley below, he could hear some sort of panicked movement. Izuku stopped to peer over the edge, but there weren't any people that Izuku could see. The movement sounded again, and this time Izuku could see something shift from the corner of his eye. It was a box. A smallish cardboard box.
It shifted again. But this time, there was a noise that came from within. Izuku, ever curious, dropped down to check on it. He approached it carefully, in case it was a bomb or something. Unlikely, but you never know with these things.
He carefully peeled back the lid, and came face to face with two large, bright golden eyes. The two stared at eachother for a few seconds, then the owner of the golden eyes meowed.
Izuku blinked. A cat? The creature's black fur looked well groomed and clean, so it likely wasn't a stray. Abandonment? Likely. But why would something throw away their obviously well loved pet?
The cat moved and stepped out of the box. Ah, that's likely why. The cat only had three legs, and by the look of the fur around the missing limb, the change was recent.
Izuku took off his glove to let the feline sniff him. Apparently, he had a trustworthy scent, as the cat started rubbing its face on his hand and started to purr. It should be fine if he took it home, right? Yeah, it should be.
Hisashi woke up in the middle of the night. A quick look at the clock showed it was just after 2 in the morning. There were few reasons he would be waking up at this time, and he doubts anyone would be stupid enough to attack his house. What else was he going to do but investigate?
Silently, he made his way to where he sensed life forms - the kitchen, apparently. He rounded the corner suddenly, and was met with his son, still half in his vigilante gear, rummaging the cupboards, and a cat sitting on the bench waiting. The three just stared at eachother, and Hisashi raised a questioning eyebrow.
As predicted, Izuku went beet red and started sputtering. Something about finding the cat in a box on the way back from patrol and asking if it was fine to keep it. It only had three legs, Izuku had said, and it seemed to like and trust him already.
Hisashi walked up to the cat, and held his hand out for it to sniff. He also activated one of his quirks; he hadn't used this one in a long time, hadn't really had the need to.
"You smell like bright one." The cat spoke. "But different. A different bright." Nice to see that animals could still pick up on that. Always a useful thing. "Little-Bright answer call for help. Small-Dim want this one to stay, but Big-Dull put in dark-box. Want to stay with Little-Bright. Big-Bright say yes?" The question was accompanied by a head tilt.
"This one let Three-Leg stay. Three-Leg have bite-bug?" An interesting thing to note, was that names in animal were different for humans and animals. Humans were named by their brightness - a thing only true animals could see - and their size. Hisashi thinks it has something to do with a mixture of quirks and personality, or perhaps the person's nature as a whole. Hisashi certainly didn't know, but was still curious about it. Animals, on the other hand, were named by their most distinctive feature. If there were two or more with similar features, then additional adjectives could be added. Most commonly colour or size.
