EDITED
Haylie made her way to the practice pitch hoping to catch Scott and Stiles and even if she couldn't she wanted to sit and watch them for a little while. Something about being around them, and Alison, made her feel so much less alone. It took her mind away from the ache in her chest.
She took a seat on the bench and soon after the players came out of the locker room, Scott spotting her instantly. "Good you're here." He said as her brother dropped down next to her. "I need you to watch practice."
"Okay, but why?"
Scott looked over his shoulder again at the players. "There's another werewolf."
"What?" Haylie's heart instantly started to race. Scott had already told them what happened last night. How Gerard sliced a werewolf in half and declared war. Whatever code the Argents followed now apparently obsolete. The only werewolves she knew were Scott, Derek and Peter. Two out of three weren't the good guys. So, another werewolf didn't stack good eyes for the actual good guys.
Stiles brought Scott's attention back. "What if you had him one on one? Would that help?"
"Wait," Haylie interrupted again. "You don't know who it is?"
Scott shook his head, concern over his face. "I don't know. Probably." Stiles stood up at the suggestion.
"I have an idea, wait here." As he took off towards the coach, Scott took up his seat on the bench.
"Have you talked to Alison today?" Haylie asked with a wince, but he shook his head. "Kate's funeral brought a lot of media attention towards them." She knew Scott probably already knew that but she wanted to work out a way to tell him what she needed to. "Scott, they aren't telling Gerard about you."
His head snapped towards her. "What do you mean? How do you know that?"
"Because last night while Stiles was finding Lydia and you were with Derek, I was with Josh Stevens." He frowned not really recognising the name. "The detective, he's one of Chris' he was there that night with Peter."
"I thought it was Dan?"
She shook her head rolling her eyes. "Dan is the younger one. Josh is the older, grumpier one. And he drove me home yesterday and told me that they aren't telling Gerard about you."
Scott frowned for a second, trying to process the information before he looked back up to his friend. "What about you?" She shrugged confused as to how she mattered. "What have they told him about you?"
She hadn't even really thought about it. Would they tell him she was an anchor? Would they tell him about her relationship with Derek? "I don't know."
"I spoke with coach." Stiles grinned as he ran back over like he had solved world hunger. "You're switching with Danny for the day."
Scott frowned at the outstretched goalie stick. "But I hate playing goal."
"Remember when I said I had an idea?" Stiles encouraged but Scott just nodded.
"Right. What's the idea?"
Haylie had to bite her lip to stop from cooing at how adorably confused Scott looked. Considering how much he had to grow up the last few months, he was still the same old Scott she grew up with. "I seriously wonder how you survive without me sometimes." Haylie let out her small laugh that time as Stiles dragged him up and pushed him towards the goal.
Scott hesitantly moved towards the goal while all the other players moved into a line, one by one they would play offense and try to score.
"Come on guys. Show me what you got!" The coach yelled while throwing the ball at the player in the front of the line. With all the helmets, Haylie couldn't see who was who and she was never a fangirl enough to remember players numbers. The player ran towards the defender but before he even got close to him, Scott ran out from goal and tackled him aggressively enough that Haylie winced.
