"I'm sorry for just barging in like this." I said as he set two mugs of tea down on the coffee table.
"Its fine, really. I'd prefer you come here then go to Hale." I scoffed.
"You sound like Daniel." He smiled.
"Well we have been partners for a while now." Josh smiled but I didnt return it. He sat down on the armchair that was opposite me. While I was sitting on the sofa. I still had my jacket on and my car keys and phone were still in my hands. He noticed the same time I did. "Did you want me to take your jacket?" I shook my head and decided to spit it out.
"Charlies dead." His facial expression didn't change. It was the same brooding face he always has. Then he shook his head. "Umm, When? How.....How do you know that?" I swallowed and he looked back up waiting for an answer.
"I went to see him today. And well......It was a werewolf." Josh shook his head again and lent forward in his chair so his elbows were on his knees.
"Thats impossible. A werewolf cant enter the shop without help. theres wolfsbane all around the perimeter."
"Trust me. It was a werewolf." I said quickly remembering the sight of Charlie on the floor.
"What were you doing going into that town anyway? Huh? Charlie told you too stay away. Its not safe for you there..." He was going to continue but I interrupted him.
"I know. I know why....It is isnt safe for me there." Joshs expression did change now. He gulped and His eyes softened. "Why couldn't you just tell me I was adopted?" He looked confused now but then back to his normal brooding.
"I um, I just, I didnt think you could handle it." I shook my head in disbelief.
"How do you think I'm handling it? Because I think I'm doing pretty damn well." He nodded.
"Your right you are. Better than I thought. So why dont you tell me exactly what you know?"
"Okay. I know that I may be Sarah Jevens's daughter?" I said like a question to see if he knew the answer. He didn't do anything to indicate that he did. "Am I?" He shrugged his shoulders.
"Haylie, I cant tell you anything I know until you find one thing out." I shook my head and opened my mouth. "And no I cant tell you what that one thing is. Just trust me okay. I cant tell you. I made a promise."
"To who?" He shrugged his shoulders. "To Sarah?" He narrowed his eyes.
"Why would you say that?" He asked but It sounded like a trick question. I shrugged this time.
"I dont know? I just thought maybe you would know her?" He shook his head.
"No, I dont know her." He said looking stern. I didnt by it. I lent back on the sofa and put my keys into my pocket.
"Didn't." He looked confused. "You didn't know her. Past tense." He opened his mouth a little like he was about to revel something but then shut it too quickly. "Okay what else do you know?" He asked changing the topic.
"The neckless My mother gave me, It belonged to Sarah. Or so I think it did. I'm also guessing Sarah gave it to my mother when 'She gave me up'." I said putting quotations around the last bit so he knew I still wasnt totally convinced I was adopted. We sat in silence for a few moments. But he spoke first. "What about your dad?" I shook my head.
"What about him?"
"Well, I take it you haven't spoken to him about this?" I shook my head again and folded my arms. "From what I know Haylie, You've been getting information from strangers. Why dont you try asking someone you trust for the truth. Because there the ones who are most likely to tell it." I nodded knowing he had a really good point. But Its not exactly the easiest thing to drop into conversation.
