A light crimson color covered Niall's cheeks as he glanced at me. One of my eyebrows rose in questioning as I placed my hand on my hip.
He swallowed nervously, shifting on his feet. "I am your mate." My eyebrows furrowed in confusion as I stared him down.
He rubbed the back of his neck nervously. "You know about soul mates right?" I nodded, still confused as to where this was going. "Well, mates are like soul mates for werewolves. They are our other half. The person we are destined to be with forever."
My breath hitched in my throat as it all slowly sank in.
Niall and I were destined to be together for the rest of our lives.
I took a step back as if I was punched in the gut and the air was knocked out of me. I looked up to see Niall watching me with worry.
"H-how?" My voice shook with nerves.
He took a deep breath, the look of worry never leaving his face. "You were chosen for me, Jewel. We are meant to be together. It's fate."
My eyes slowly closed before opening again in a slow blink. "Wow."
He nodded before slowly taking a step forward. I took a step back, slowly shaking my head.
My wolf kept shouting at me to go to my mate, but I couldn't just fall into this. I needed time to process everything and let it all sink in so I can make rational decisions.
I held up my hand to stop Niall from coming any closer. "I need some time, Niall. This is a lot for me to take in."
He nodded, lowering his gaze to the floor. "I understand. Just, please, give it a chance." The desperate tone in his voice made my heart swell.
I nodded slowly as he walked around me and left me alone in the room with silence. I collapsed onto the floor in a heap of tears as everything overwhelmed me in the moment.
