Chapter 36

I fumbled for my words as I batted my eyelashes innocently and fiddled with my hands nervously as I tried to think of the right words to say. I had to convince him somehow that it was mine or I would never hear the end of why I never told him about Niall and blah blah blah.

"It's mine." My words came out surprisingly calm and firm, complete opposite of what I was feeling inside. "It's awfully big to be yours." My dad raised a questioning eyebrow and glanced at me with narrowed eyes. I looked away from his scrutinizing gaze and thought of something to say to get me out of this mess. "Well, I wanted it big because bigger is comfier for around the house."

He watched me for several agonizingly long minutes as I waited nervously for a response. "It looks like a guys shirt and smells like one too." I swallowed, as I knew that I most likely wasn't going to get out of this unscathed. "That's because I bought it in the men's department." I kept my responses to the point and tried to respond quickly, but not too quickly to where it would raise suspicion that I was lying.

He continued to watch me and I could tell in his eyes he was questioning my innocence. In his mind, his innocent daughter would never wear a man's shirt, much less smell like one. "The scent is fresh." I stared at my father weirdly as I thought the phrase through. "How can you tell that?"

His face went blank as he tried to cover it up with a stupid reply. "Well, it's uhm, just really strong." From my experience, werewolf senses would be able to distinguish if a scent was fresh or not. "Are you hiding something from me?" My dad's eyes widened momentarily before he crossed his arms over his chest and shook his head with a stern look taking over his features. "Absolutely not."

I decided to let it go, as it would most likely come out eventually if what I thought were true. I nodded and brushed it off as I took a deep breath before letting it out in a long sigh. "Well, I'm just gonna go up to my room and read a little."

He nodded absentmindedly, a distracted look on his face and went into the kitchen silently. I heard him rustling around in the cabinets and the sound of knives slicing against a cutting board as he prepared something for dinner.

I walked up the stairs swiftly and into my room. I closed the door behind me and closed my eyes in relief as everything came back to me. I lightly laughed at the situation and shook my head.

There was no way that was possible and I didn't already know about it. How could you even hide something like that for that long? Although, I'm going to have to figure out a way to hide it for as long as I can without raising suspicion.

I rolled my eyes and turned around from the door only for them to widen and my breath to hitch in my throat.
