(Okay so this is mostly completely unrelated to the main plot line, but it had to be done. Kudos to @hoffera , @KnowledgeHuntress and @Athena_Spawn for the idea in the comments, I hope it's everything you wanted it to be ^-^)

Leo was giving Festus an update when he noticed that there was a sock inside his brain. Festus's brain, not Leo's, just to be clear.

Anyway, the sock was not just any old sock. It was one of the Little Mermaid socks that Leo knew Thalia had given Percy for his birthday. So what was it doing in Festus's brain, you ask? Well, that's what Leo wanted to know too.

The son of Hephaestus tossed a coin into a puddle of oil dripping from Festus's knee, and it disappeared into the iridescent rainbow sheen on its surface. "O Iris, please show me Percy Jackson so I can ask him why his sock is inside my dragon's skull. Thanks."

The rainbow shimmered and a slightly blackened image of the back of Percy's head appeared. He was with Annabeth, and it was only then that Leo remembered that the couple were on a 'romantic break' in Paris. The couple were sat on a bridge, eating some kind of pastries and making noises of general satisfaction, and before Leo cut the connection he heard Annabeth say, "I'm so bringing some of these back for the others to try."

Percy's sock all but forgotten, and nothing but pastry now on Leo's mind, the demigod gave Festus a quick pat goodbye and raced off to find the world's friendliest hellhound. Leo wasn't Mrs O'Leary's biggest fan, and he was pretty confident the feeling was mutual, but some things had to be overcome when there were pastries involved.

"Paris, my big furry buddy," Leo said awkwardly, patting Mrs O'Leary and silently hoping she wouldn't eat him until he'd at least tried one of those pastries. He wasn't entirely sure how to work the real life animal. "Somewhere around the Eiffel Tower. Do you need coordinates, or- Woah!"

Before Leo could finish talking, the hellhound was lunging for the nearest shadow, and a second later Leo was blinking away the darkness and looking up at the Eiffel Tower. Mrs O'Leary gave a sniff and a loud woof, tail wagging as she turned in what was presumably Percy's direction.

"Not now, buddy," Leo slid off her back. "Either stay here like a good girl, or go back to camp and come back for me in an hour or so, okay?"

Mrs O'Leary gave a yip of approval and bounded into the nearest shadow. Leo was glad she'd chosen not to stay - several people were beginning to point and shout something about hakuna matata - but he just really hoped she'd gotten the memo about coming back.

His worries about getting stranded in Paris were greatly diminished as a floating scent on the breeze reminded him why he'd come - pastry. Leo followed his nose through the city until he reached a small bakery. Or at least he thought it was a bakery, but he lacked Piper's magical ability to read French shop signs, so he just had to take a wild guess from all the croissants in the window display. A little bell tinkled as he walked in with a broad smile.

"bdhvfcuygfbwks'iujhvjhvsb,b?" Said the man behind the counter with a broad smile. Leo loved the sound of French. It wasn't like normal foreign gobbledegook - this was cursive and italicised foreign gobbledegook.

Leo nodded and smiled, then shook his head as the man repeated his question. "Yeah, I don't speak French. Can I have a pastry? Nonono, a pastry." It took a minute and lots of pointing, but eventually the man had put several pastries in a bag and was holding up five fingers.

Leo nodded, giving a thumbs-up to show his understanding, then rummaged in his tool belt. He pulled out a wrench, and frowned. "Sorry," he told the man. "Sometimes it takes a minute."

The man nodded and smiled to show he had no idea what Leo was saying, and Leo kept rummaging. He pulled out a spanner, some glue, a notebook, a handful of nails, and finally a ten euro bill. The pastry man nodded emphatically and Leo handed it over, gratefully receiving his pastries as the man got the change ready.
