Annabeth looked sadly at the exhausted girl in front of her. She hated to keep pushing her, but Percy needed their help.
"A problem? Is everyone okay?" Ladybug got to her feet, rubbing at bleary eyes.
"Everyone but Percy. Hawkmoth's almost certainly captured him."
"Okay. I can go get the others-"
"No, it's okay. I can get in alone, I just need inspiration."
"But if he captured Percy-"
"It was only because he akumatised himself to do it. By now he will have switched powers so he can use them against Percy, and I doubt he'll think to use the same power again."
"So... What do you need me for?"
"I'd like you to summon a Lucky Charm. They seem to be magical artefacts I've come across before, and having one will definitely be useful."
"Oh, okay. Lucky Charm!"
Annabeth squinted at the object forming in the flash of light, and a smile blossomed at the familiar item as it fell into Ladybug's waiting hands.
"A cap?" Ladybug asked. "What are you meant to do with-"
"Thank you!" Annabeth called over her shoulder as she snatched the hat, already running. Behind her, she could hear Chat's puzzled question and Ladybug's equally confused reply, but right now she going to save her Seaweed Brain.
Annabeth slowed as she approached the gates of the Agreste mansion. She looked at the red and black yankees cap in her hands with a faint smile, then carefully placed it onto her head. She couldn't help a grin when she saw herself disappear.
Climbing over the fence and sneaking through the garden was a lot easier when invisible, although Annabeth still had to take care not to make any conspicuous noises. Getting into the house was just as simple - there was a window on the side of the house Percy had taken that Annabeth found unlocked. It must have been the entrance Percy had used. Making sure that the cap was secure on her head and hoping that Ladybug wouldn't transform back and take the lucky charm with her, Annabeth crept down the hall towards the sounds of voices.
What she saw when she peeked into the room Hawkmoth's angry voice was coming from was a far cry from what she'd been expecting. Annabeth wasn't entirely sure what she had been expecting, but it wasn't a furious Hawkmoth in a garish orange mask stamping his foot whilst stood on top of his dining room table, as Percy snickered in a hanging cage looking totally at ease.
Annabeth rolled her invisible eyes. Percy was in no immediate danger, so she followed her nose to a kitchen, where she found a roll of tape in a drawer. Heading back to the dining room, she made sure Hawkmoth was focused on Percy before doffing her cap, allowing Percy a glimpse of her. He stopped talking to inhale sharply, but by the time Hawkmoth spun around - "What is it?!" - she was gone, cap back on and darting, invisible, across the room towards Hawkmoth.
"Hey! What are you doing?" He cried as Percy uncapped Riptide. "I took that sword off you, and it's an illusion anyway!"
Percy just grinning and swung the blade around, the celestial bronze sword cutting through the bars of the cage like butter. "It's okay!" He yelled at her as he dropped to the table atop the severed base of the cage. "He can only summon illusions right now."
"Who are you talking to?" Hawkmoth snarling, spinning frantically but seeing nobody. Having all the reassurance she needed, Annabeth leapt onto the villain and taped his mouth shut. His eyes went wide as he tried to form muffled words, but Annabeth kept wrapping the roll around his head, then around his jaw and the top of his head, locking his jaw shut. Only when she had secured his wrists and ankles too did she whip off her cap and march angrily over to Percy, gesturing at the remains of the cage.
"Want to explain why you didn't do that before I broke in here to save your butt?"
"We were having a nice chat! His assistant's in on it, and the bodyguard's out looking for Ladybug and co. He doesn't want to hurt his son but he will if it will bring his wife back. He doesn't want kill us but will if we get in his way. The thing about Nino, Alya and Marinette was an empty threat, he doesn't have the time to spare to go after them. Oh, and the assistant has a miraculous but can't use it because it's broken, and she doesn't get paid extra to help out." Annabeth raised a brow, impressed.
From beneath his tape, Hawkmoth made some angry noises.
"Oh, right. I almost forgot." Annabeth knelt beside him on the table, and plucked off his miraculous butterfly pin. Immediately, his costume melted away to reveal Gabriel in his usual suit and tie, still trapped by tape. "I'll be taking this."
"And you'll be coming with us on a lovely trip to-"
A roar interrupted Percy, and he and Annabeth exchanged a confused glance. There was another roar, and thundering footsteps neared.
"Uh... I think that's our cue to leave." Annabeth nodded, looking around for her cap. It was gone - Marinette must have transformed back. That was fine. They'd just have to run. Annabeth bent to scoop up Gabriel, but the doors splintered open and a ginormous....thing burst through. It opened its mouth, revealing rows of fangs, and roared again. Its face was a blur of half-remembered nightmares and horrors she'd only glimpsed in the depths of Tartarus. It crawled forward on eight furry legs, pincers clicking menacingly where there had been a forked tongue moments before. Annabeth froze, unable to look away.
"Annabeth, let's GO!" Percy roared, snapping her out of it. She didn't reply, simply spinning on her heel and sprinting after him. They crashed through an ornate window and hit the ground running. After several streets, Percy began to slow. "It's not following us." Annabeth said nothing, but her feet kept pounding, the monster's roars ringing in her head. "Annabeth!"
Annabeth only stopped running when she collapsed. It took Percy a minute to catch up, and when he did he just flopped beside her on the pavement and they panted together, breath mingling in the air as the sun began to rise over the Eiffel Tower.
