Percy reclined on the huge bed, sinking into the fluffy pillows.
"This is niceeeee."
From her perch on the other bed, Annabeth laughed. "It is. And the view... We can see all the way to the Eiffel Tower."
Percy squinted out the window, his eye caught by something red. "Speaking of... Is that one of those superheroes?"
"Ladybug, I think," Annabeth said, standing up to get a better view. "But I don't see the other one, or any... akumas."
"Should we go say hi?"
She gave him an incredulous look.
"What?"
"You want to go say hi to the superhero."
"Yeah. See if we can help, I dunno."
"Not right now. We'd never get there in time. Look, she's already gone."
It was true, Ladybug had vanished.
"So, what are we going to do tomorrow, pamphlet lady?"
Annabeth crowed in outrage, chucking her tourist leaflet at him. "I was thinking we'd go the most romantic travelling ice cream parlour in the city, but maybe I'll change my mind," she said indignantly.
Percy rolled his eyes, but smiled warmly at her. "It sounds great. And maybe we can check out the Louvre whilst we're at it."
She laughed. "You're such a suck-up. I'm surprised you even know what the Louvre is!"
"Excuse me, I know all about it!" Percy read upside-down from the pamphlet. "The Louvre, or the Louvre Museum, is the world's largest art museum and a historic monument in Paris, France. A central landmark of the city, it is located on the Right Bank of the Seine in the city's 1st... I have no idea how to saw that word, magic bracelet or not."
"Arrondissement."
"Aaron did see what now?"
"Oh, go to sleep, seaweed brain."
"Love you too, Wise Girl."
She threw a pillow at him.
In the morning, they got dressed and headed out nice and early. They started walking towards the Eiffel Tower at a leisurely pace, passing by the busy front steps of a school.
"Percy! Annabeth! Hey, over here!" A familiar voice called. The pair looked up together to see Alya waving frantically as she ran down the steps towards them. "What are you guys doing here?"
"We were on our way to see the Eiffel Tower," Annabeth explained. "Is this your school?"
"Yep. Oh, hey Adrien!"
"Hi Alya," a blonde boy said, glancing behind him at a silver limousine as it drove away. Annabeth recognised him from posters she'd seen around the city. "Have you seen Marinette?"
"Late as usual," Alya winked at him. "See you in class, golden boy."
The three of them chatted until Marinette came rushing up the steps, checking her watch.
"Girl, you're not ten minutes late!" Alya exclaimed, hugging her friend. "Adrien was asking after you..."
"Uh-huh," Marinette said, seeming distracted.
"Girl? Did you hear me? I said Adrien, super model and your all-time crush? Asked about you?"
"Cool," Marinette said.
Alya stared at her disbelievingly. "This is your cue to be screaming and tripping over bushes?"
"Uh-huh... Oh yeah, I have invitations for all of you, I'm having a sleepover for my birthday this year."
Annabeth looked at Percy, who was completely oblivious. "Well, we'll leave you two to it-"
"Percy! Anniebelle! Is that you? Why are you talking to Maritrash?"
"It's Annabeth," she bit out, glowering at Chloé, the blonde daughter of the owner of their hotel.
"Oh, my bad. OMG, I love your bracelet. Were you wearing it yesterday?"
Annabeth gripped her wrist. "Yeah. It was a gift."
"It's so pretty," Chloé said, reaching to touch it. "Can I see?"
"Actually, I'd rather you-" Annabeth tried to pull away from Chloé's grip, but the girl held onto the bracelet, pulling it off Annabeth's wrist.
"Hey!" She yelled, grabbing at it. "Give it back."
"Non, je ne pense pas."
"Oh, no. Please, give it back!" She lunged at the girl again.
"Pourquoi parles-tu anglais? Est-ce que je t'ai fait peur?" Chloé pouted.
"Chloé, rendez-le!" Alya shouted.
Annabeth looked around the group, panicking. Why had she chosen to learn German instead of French? She knew a little bit of Latin, which French was derived from, but they were speaking too fast for her to even try to understand.
"Donne-moi le bracelet, Chloé," Percy said calmly, drawing himself up to his full height.
"Laisse moi réfléchir ... non," Chloé smirked, slipping the bracelet onto her wrist.
"Chloé, please!" Annabeth said, making a grab for it, but the girl dodged out of her way, admiring her wrist.
"Chloé..." Percy growled, just as the bell rang. Annabeth almost sobbed.
"Oh non! Je dois aller à l'école maintenant! Au revoir!" Chloé blew her a kiss, and skipped off.
Marinette and Alya looked between her and Annabeth, torn.
"Je suis vraiment désolé Annabeth. Nous allons récupérer votre bracelet, je le promets."
Annabeth searched for words, not sure what she was meant to say. Percy saved her.
"Merci beaucoup, Alya, Marinette. Vous devez vous rendre en classe, nous comprenons."
"D'accord," they looked hesitant to leave. "Au revoir."
Percy watched them go, then slipped off his bracelet. "Here. You have it."
"No. It's not your fault mine got taken," she pushed it away.
"Please, take it. Spending time around you and your siblings has made me used to not understanding a word of what's going on. Besides, you're much better at talking to people than I am, and this gives me an excuse to be unsociable. Take the bracelet, Annabeth."
Annabeth knew that stubborn face, and he did actually make some sense for once, so she sighed and took the bracelet. The name of the school came back into focus.
"Let's go get some ice cream."
"Uh... In English please?"
She laughed, and made an effort to make her words English. "I said, let's go get some ice-cream."
"Oh, sounds great! After you, madamoiselle."
